The council finally dropped the rebranding plans and agreed to keep our town identities intact. I am physically drained from this fight but incredibly grateful you stuck by me while they ignored our requests. Stay alert because we need to ensure they actually follow through on keeping Rochester's status separate.
Medway Council have decided to apply for city status for the Medway Towns and villages and rename us all Medway City. They have yet again failed to properly consult with the residents, they have not explained the pros and cons of becoming one city and they have not disclosed the costs that a change to city status will incur.
We the undersigned petition Medway Council to carry out a referendum to ask the people of the Medway Towns if they wish to be renamed Medway City, or to keep their town and village names and instead reinstate city status to the historically named City of Rochester.
The council remains silent while residents continue to reach out with deep concerns about the cost of this rebrand. I am spending my evenings documenting every question that has been ignored so far. We are not going to let them force this change without a real conversation.

I believe Rochester should be the City not Medway.
Medway isn't a town or City it is a collection of towns and Rochester was and still is in most peoples thinking The City.
To qualify as a city the criteria always was to have a Cathedral. Well Rochester has the second oldest one in the country.
So how can a thousand years of history be removed?

Waste of time and money just like everything else they do. Talk to the actual people who live here first.

Ridiculous. My address is Chatham not Medway City. Stick to the history and stop wasting my tax money on this vanity project.

Rochester has always been the city. Medway is just a council area invented a few years back. Dont force this name on us when nobody asked.

Rochester has the cathedral and the heritage. Medway is just a made up name for the council to make admin easier. Keep Rochester as the city if we have to have one at all.
