This and everything else I can, to avert total climate breakdown.

After reading the 2008 IPCC Report, I went from depression to, ultimately, action:
- I embedded sustainability into all my UBC courses, creating Green Italian
- The moment I finished reading George Monbiot's chapter on air travel in "Heat - How to Stop the Planet from
Burning", I stopped flying
- I started writing climate fiction. http://laughinginthelanguage.com/
I've made peace with never seeing Italy again (unless I get on a Greenpeace ship as writer-on-board), and have now done the round-trip train journey from Vancouver to Boulder to see family almost 30 times.
The train is now my transportation and my muse – where I write novels late night in the lounge as we roll through darkened desert, acquire interested readers in the dining car, and fix in poetry images of lone dog or flooded field; the rhythm of the rails…
It is a joy every single time to hear the “All Aboard!” and step up.

I'm taking trains everywhere I can. I might have to fly to some IPCC meetings, but will avoid as much as possible.

Increasingly disillusioned by doublespeak. People speak out about the environment but don’t seem to think it has anything to do with their flights to numerous destinations.

15 years flight-free now. Love rail travel across Europe (trains in the UK can sometimes be less enjoyable :))
