I often fish Watchet and surrounding areas and while there I buy bait and kit from the tackle shop, teas and breakfast from the cafes and have pub meals and my family and I visit many shops but if a fishing tax is put on me I will find other places to visit and spend my money!

What could possibly be the justification for this charge, the community in Watchet do half the work the council should be doing as it is.

Please don't do this, these are free local things to do and at best only for a few hours each high water. This would need policing and paying someone anti social rates of pay to collect a couple of £5 would not cover the wage and as such cost the council money

We already pay to park in the respective car parks and now being charged for fishing? Disgraceful. Taking away the rights of people that have fished for many years from Minehead and Watchet. Don't tell me that this will eventually take in Blue Anchor??

I want a council that supports the local economy not takes from it. Think again about this penny pinching policy

Another brain dead idea from equally brain dead people! Yes, what a great idea, lets charge people to fish from the harbour. When, in six months time, there is no visible revenue from the idea, and of course, no anglers at the harbour, who will care? The council decided to double my mooring fees for my charter boat Alykat, for what, absolutely nothing ! Last week I had to replace my mooring chains. Due to deep mud that has developed in the harbour due to the councils total lack of maintenance, this operation was almost impossible. It is just a matter of time before life is lost because of this councils absolute lack of adequacy and sadly, interest!

We need to attract more visitors and encourage angling in our area for the benefit of the local economy. The proposed charge is a deterrence to angling and unenforceable. It is a tax that will only shrink a market the local community needs to flourish.

Fed up with with people making it harder to enjoy the sport of fishing, willing to travel and use local amenities, they will suffer as well

Nothing again to encourage the visitor or the local to spend time in Minehead. They pay to park on the seafront, yet there is nothing to do and even less when the tide is out.You close the toilets, now you charge for fishing at the harbour. Minehead is becoming a drive by town as no one will soon want to stop here.

I do not believe that it is right that you are trying to charge people to fish from the harbours at minehead and watchet.
Both these places give accesss to the old, young and not too say disabled.(some ofcthe poorest people)
Charging to fish there is criminal

The wording of the proposal is "to provide a safe position to fish from". The number of recorded incidents is minimal and cannot therefore justify such a draconian measure. What are they intending to provide with the fees?
