Say NO to Fishing Charges on Minehead & Watchet Harbour

will they also charge kids to go crabbing? Next they`ll be charging tourists to walk along the promenade. Shameful, they seem to know the cost of everything but the value of nothing. Minehead and Watchet won`t be having any of my money!

It's putting more money in the pockets of the lazy sod's in the office .

It's a bloody joke can't the council fill there pockets any other way next they will try and charges us to walk on the beach

Think of the kids and elderly or disabled who use this venue as a easily accessible place to fish who would find it hard to afford bait and tackle let alone a fee to fish the venue

This is just the start of the slippery slope to making a recreational sport into an elitist sport!! Just take a look at how the prices have been hiked for fresh water fishing!!! This thought of licencing must be stopped in its tracks!!!!

Perhaps the council could put a levy on fish caught (could raise £50 in the next 20 years)

This is another way of greedy Councils ruining a simple pleasure that has been enjoyed forever. How can it be justified? What are the Council doing for the money? Nothing I suspect? Just thought it would be another revenue stream? Think again Somerset Council.

No charges for harbour fishing

I think it's an absolute disgrace that the minehead and watchet council are going to try and charge anglers to fish on the harbour. There's only one reason for this and that is to put another tax on people's fun.

I'm against these changes, as the harbours give easy access to less able anglers.

Surely the West Pier in Watchet and Harbour Pier in Minehead are public places and nobody owns the sea so it seems unfair for the Council to enforce a fishing fee. Children through to pensioners enjoy fishing and with the problems of mental health surely a hobby like this should be encouraged not penalised.

There is no justification for this purely money grabbing idea

Fished here for 20 years with no facilities or thought for my safety. Don't see why I should start paying now. Would like to know the legal basis to impose let alone enforce this.

Why change whats not hurting any one

Why does everything have to be about money. Not an angler myself but it's good to see people of all ages enjoying themselves in a peaceful and quiet way

This is so wrong, is the council going to employ someone full time to collect the fee? As the tides don't keep office hours will they have to pay overtime or have three or four on shifts to cover the tides?

This will result in more stray fishing hooks around the rest of the beach where fishing will be free of charges, ludicrous.

This will drive young anglers away from an excellent recreational activity thats healthy and keeps them out of trouble. It will also encourage them to fish other ares of the shoreline they could easily walk to which are very dangerous!
