This seems like a kick in the guts to many disabled anglers unable to fish elsewhere. Whats the charge for walking, crab lining?

Should never ever be charged for that is ridiculous. Penny pinching

This is a narrow minded approach, so many children over the centuries have learned to fish off of our piers and harbour walls. Where do you think they are going to go now? Holiday makers see others fishing/crabbing and go to the local shop, spend money to buy some gear and go and have fun, there is little else to do in the town so why take away this? It does not make sense. As someone else mentioned, what about access to all? disabled persons will be unable to pier without paying, who is actually going to pay to spend an hour catching a few crabs/fish and throw them back in again?

Well where to start. This is an outrage, to start allowing the younger generation to fish off the harbour wall for no fee is allowing them to spend there monies wisely (for bait) it is giving them hours of fun and enjoyment. It's keeping them off the streets causing damage and being anti social. These charges will have a massive effect on the local community as we have for a number of years been welcoming people to come and fish which brings families from all over into our towns to look and shop about they might only be down for 1 or 2 sessions then not return for 6months. What about the local casting trainer who uses the harbour for exercises for all age groups with these charges custom will be lost there as well as the tackle shops. Who do you plan to police it? If this does happen people will just pick there things up walk round the back of the harbour and fish there and then laugh in the face of the council. What about the lesser abled with mobility issues who have the ability to fish from a wheel chair they can't go and fish from the pebbles and rocks. Thats my views i look forward to the outcome of this stupid idea from a pen pushing counsellor who probably has never fished a day in his life

It will cost more to enforce this than the revenue it will generate.

I couldn't in all good faith ignore this petition. As a kid my sister and I used to enjoy fishing off the wall and to try and make people pay for one of the few things in life that is free is an outrage. Who cam up with this ridiculous and outrageous idea? Were they born here? Grow up here? If not then they should take their stupid ideas and take them back to whence they came. Fuming!! Fishing for some is one of the few pleasures that those less fortunate can enjoy, and now you want to charge and by so doing possibly take that away from them too? Stick it and sunshine comes to mind.

Ridiculous proposal. If the money was spent to improve fishing facilities on the pier fair enough but this is just another local tax.

I want to know how they would police this crazy idea. Extra staff to check night time anglers! The income this would generate wouldn't cover the cost of enforcing it by a long long way. No doubt this crazy idea was thought up by someone with a degree and a keyboard and not someone with common sense.

The pier at watchet was such a great place for us as kids my brothers and I would spend days fishing and prawning from the pier during the summer holidays and in the winter when their is less to do in the area having a great place to fish from gave us something to occupy our time.

Appalled at this. Its not a pier and we also custom to local shops purchasing food and fishing rods, reels, bait. People come from miles away to fish here so short sighted.
