The most alarming report out of Uganda in recent days is the proposed genetically modified testing of maize by Monsanto.
By signing this petition, you will send a strong message to the government of Uganda, and to the world that Africa may be poor, but the citizens are not stupid. We insist that the government of Uganda support, nurture and protect Naturally Organic Agriculture Harvests (NOAH).
The modest goal is to have as many as 1000 signatures to present to the government of Uganda by December 31, 2010. Please, send e-mails to your friends and their friends to sign up. We need a strong mandate to get the maize testing stopped immediately.

Reaching our halfway point reminds me that the desire for organic independence is shared by many more people than I originally imagined. We have momentum now and it is vital that we maintain this energy to ensure the government takes our concerns about maize testing seriously.

The feedback I have received highlights a shared conviction that the future of our agriculture must remain rooted in organic practices rather than external testing. I am currently compiling the concerns raised in these comments to ensure our collective position is presented clearly to the authorities.

Keep our seeds natural. We dont need these experiments in our country.
Our soil and our farmers deserve better than gmo maize. Protection for our heritage please.
Uganda has enough local crops and farmers that know what they are doing. Why are we letting big corps mess with our food supply?

Bayer and Mosanto should not be allowed to kill our native species for their profit as they have done in north america and europe.
