Please don't underestimate the effect of feeling safe and supported on the physical and mental health of mother and baby during the birth experience

Due my first baby in 4 weeks and I can’t imagine going through labour and delivery without my partner. I can understand the visiting restrictions afterwards but not the lack of a support person during labour and delivery.

The fact that this needs to be petitioned is disgraceful.

Denying a labouring mother the essential support of her partner militates against a safer outcome for mother and baby and interfere with bonding at this highly significant time in the lives of the parents and baby.
Now is a perfect time to invest in enabling women to birth at home

Having given birth only last week I know it was essential my partner was there to help me through the process. It was stressful enough knowing that he would not be able to visit or bond with his newborn son in hospital during the first few days of his life. Credit must be given to all the medical staff that helped us deliver and with the superb aftercare we were given but in the depths of labour the only person that mattered to me to be there was my partner.

Adding serious stress to a situation that is already bad enough. I live with my wife and she will come home with me why would I be excluded from the birth of our baby

I’m due my 2nd baby in less than 2 weeks. My first baby delivery was very traumatic and I fear if my husband can’t be in with me to help me through this one.

Despite everything that is going on with covid-19, it's unfair that's birthing partners cannot be in present, they miss out on what can be there only chance to experience the birth if there child plus to offer the support.

Emotional support and presence from birthing partners is so vital for the mother.
There are other measures that can be taken with distancing and protective clothing.

I am absolutely shocked that this is being done in Ireland. It is utterly cruel to expect women to leave their partners outside the hospital doors and birth alone with a bunch of strangers. Helpful and all as these strangers are, the research clearly shows that birth can be hindered if the woman does not feel emotionally safe and the best way to achieve that in a hospital setting is to be accompanied by a familiar companion. Please remove this unnecessary and inhumane rule immediately.

Putting women and babies at risk, im sure many will now choose to stay at home rather than attend hospital. All hospitals in Ireland should be doing the same thing lead by government and WHO reccommendations and not making up their own rules.

Terrible decision masks and gloves could be worn social distance observed. Terrible for new fathers not been able to be present for their birth even more so for mothers not having partners there to reassure and comfort them. Please reverse.

I think birthing partners should be allowed in during the birth of their newborn.
