As a first time mother at 37 weeks pregnant the thought of birthing alone after hearing this story had me in tears for days. Pregnant women have enough stress in today's current climate without the fear of birthing alone.

As a midwife and a mother of 5 newest baby 9 weeks old I think it's very wrong to not allow the father/partner to be present for the birth.

100% in support of you. No woman should have to birth alone. It is extremely important to have a trusted birth support partner during birth.

This policy is a disgrace!
Who is going to be the woman's advocate during her labor. When she is at a point where she can not voice her wishes how will the health care professionals ensure they do not act against her consent.
Studies show the presence of a partner has been associated with improved outcomes for both the mother and the baby. Guidelines from the world health organisation have advised that in the current pandemic “All women have the right to a safe and positive childbirth experience”. They specifically list “a companion of choice” as one of the criteria to meet this need.
I do not feel that allowing partners in as a support to women during labour carries any extra risk. If a partner is carrying the virus then the woman would also be carrying it as they will have most likely been living together in the same house.
I am due myself in a few weeks and this is causing severe anxiety and stress for me. This cannot be good for my unborn baby.
This decision shows no compassion to pregnant women!
