Disappointed in this decision made by the two obstetricians in Mullingar hospital. Taking it upon themselves to go against the advice by WHO, HSE and even their own midwives do not agree with this. It is going against the rights of the birthing mother to have a safe positive child birth. Their decision is causing mental stress to expecting mothers around the country which could lead to complications. Every pregnant woman is entitled to dignity and respect and a birthing partner. The obstetricians in mullingar need to respect the rights of the pregnant women. They need to re-evaluate their decision whilst looking out for the safety of staff and other patients but accommodating the birthing mother’s rights also.
This may mean, birthing companions tested on entry, entry directly to delivery suite by an alternative route to minimise contact. PPE for birthing companions etc

Pregnancy and child birth is terrifying enough without have the support of your partner. This ban is outright cruel even with everything that's going on. If the father is covid 19 + then so is the mother so all risks are still there even with the father being absent

Taking a way a women’s support person in the most vulnerable time of her life, giving birth, will be cause to high risk of post natal depression! Also taking a way a fathers right to see his child coming into the world, May have the same effect on him.

Having had 1 child I cant even begin to imagine how much more scared I would have been without my husband there. As someone who suffers with anxiety I think it would have caused me incredible unnecessary stress which would have been dangerous for me and the baby.

I am 28 weeks pregnant with my first baby. There is no way I can imagine doing it without my partner. Think of the mam and dad's mental health. And completely against Who recommendations to have a safe birth with birthing partner. This is just wrong on all levels.

Denying a woman a birthing partner is against the WHO recommendations for women giving birth during the Covid 19 crisis.
