While everyone as a society and a community tries to halt this virus, we should not abandon our humanity. No woman should be without her birthing partner.

This happened to me and it was the worst experience I ever had. Still traumatised with no help from midwives I was left alone to birth my baby on a table by myself in a hospital, my first child and it was horrible and terrifying. A partner should ALWAYS be allowed. Its disgraceful and disgusting in this day and age. I will never be going near a hospital to birth a child again. Caring and compassionate my ass!

A woman needs someone she trusts at such a scary time, she needs a familiar face and a strong advocate for her wishes. The baby needs to bond with its fatger skin to skin as soon as possible, to prevent this would be cruel & inhumane. Ask any father who missed the birth, the majority would tell you its something they wish they could change it. Please show compassion, people are tense in this climate, this does not need to be another stress.

No woman should have to birth alone. Thank you for this... I'm happy to have my say and I agree with best practice as outlined by the WHO

I work as a doula. This means that I support pregnant people from the time they book me early on in their pregnancy all the way through to many months after their baby has been born. Two weeks ago, the Irish Maternity system told mothers to be that they had to choose between their partner and their doula. This was bad enough and very difficult for people who had experienced previous birth trauma or who had perinatal mental health problems. Two of my clients chose me over the partner this month. My other two clients have chosen the partner and I will be providing remote support. For the pregnant person to now be denied her partner or anyone she knows and trusts is horrific. The Irish maternity system is busy and highly medicalised. There is very little time to actually BE WITH a woman however much a midwife might want to do that. In these times staff are frightened and scared; are they really going to want to come close to a birthing person and rub her back hold her and whisper to her in that voice that she knows and trusts that, she is strong, that she is believed in and that yes, she can and will do it. Unlikely. Who is going to help her if she has a c birth? No partners allowed afterwards. Lactation Consultants not available on weekends. Its going to be traumatic and difficult for mothers. Now, mothers are made of stern stuff and are incredibly adaptive no one disputes that. Historically women birthed without their partner and in the hands of a midwife, but the woman would have known that midwife, met her or him all through her pregnancy and TRUSTED them. Birthing relies on TRUST and not being ANXIOUS. This decision has not enhanced trust; instead it has created the one thing that birthing doesn't need; fear. This decision assumes that birth is a medical clinical event. It isn't. Birth is a transformative familial event being as much a psychological event as a physical one. My fear is that women in the Midlands will decide to Freebirth if they cannot bring in thei

My aunt is due shortly and this ban is totally unfair and not fair for both mother and father of the unborn child

Due in 10 weeks and the fear of having to labour aka possibly deliver alone has absolutely terrified me and destroyed my pregnancy journey! I also don’t think it’s fair on dads to miss out on the start of their babies life’s
