It's an absolute disgrace that in this day and age we have hourly paid teachers. We are professionals and should be treated as such. I didn't go to university and get a MSc to be treated with utter contempt and despite nearly 30 years of teaching my professional ability constantly challenged by senior managers who mumble their way through presentations! Those who can't teach become senior managers and tell others what to do!! Those who love teaching stay and are committed to their profession!

Having been on a zero hours contract previously with my organisation for a number of years, I have direct experience of how damaging this can be. Yes, in theory it means there might be some flexibility, but actually this doesn't outweigh the instability it can cause to services and staff. I am an older member of staff with a lot of experience, and during my time on zero hours contract I really did not feel this was valued. In terms of the internal power structure pecking order, it's almost like you become a bit invisible and devalued. And even though I now have a contract, I am still having problems - a lot of my work history with my zero hours contract years has been recorded incorrectly with whoever is the latest HR organisation (which has now become quite faceless). This is a disgusting way to treat loyal, hard-working staff. Damaging, because it could have all sorts of implications e.g. pension & future employment. I believe strongly that mistakes like these are easier to do with people on a zero hours contract. During the time of being on the zero hours contract, the amount of extra time it took to argue for fair workers rights, decent pay and conditions, and ofcourse, you are more at risk of the will of managers to give/not give you work. What really frustrates me with the team I was in, the Inclusive Learning department, it effects the more vulnerable students, means we don't hold on so well to good staff, and then in the summer college break there is no work, unless you want to take a pay cut and 'help out' with the admissions process - so more often than not, we get less experienced people who can make mistakes that other members of staff have to sort out later; plus, there are other regular zero contract staff who would benefit both themselves, and the college by being part of that process (being paid their usual rate), helping the transition time with starts of courses and knowledge of individual students.

ZHC are a source of anxiety for those subjected to them. It cannot be prudent for quality teaching to keep employees in such a financially insecure state - ZHC are inherently a cheap and disrespectful business model - I say they should be banned.

Even SportsDirect, which are the champions of zero hours contracts (ZHC), are considering to drop it. CCCG seems to be proud of introducing ZHC. Drop it. Treat staff with respect abd dignity

it is a shame that we are an education institution that is pushing ahead with zero hours contracts. Decent work comes with decent contracts.

Secured contract is essential for college as it gives the college certainty as basis for long-term planning and growth. Happy and motivated staff grows together with organisation, aligning the needs of the organisation and the individual is great synergy and work wonders for goal congruence.

After several years of working at an HPL it is unfair that we still do not have any security.

Shameful that a large educational establishment like ours is not supporting basic workers rights
