Please also work to increase the hourly pay rate (especially for those on CCCG contracts). The current rate provides very poor remuneration given the workload and quality expectations placed on teachers by the college and amounts to exploitation.

Give our educators the respect they deserve!

All workers need to be in charge of their time, and know how much they will receive at the end of the month. If a directly employed staff member doesn't get this, they are being abused by failure of the system.

Everyone should have parity of esteem and job security to an extent that they can make plans in advance. Progression opportunity would then be applied more fairly.

Zero-hour contracts are brutal. I have been surviving on my November wages, as only worked 2 weeks in December, and I didn't get the £700, as I just started in November . I work hard, yet, it doesn't reflect on my life-style, as I'm constantly saving. I am a passionate over- qualified teacher, this is not the treatment I deserve. I deserve stability, holiday pay, maternity leave and all that!

I cannot believe part time teachers are still on such low pay. 30 years ago I was paid 21 pounds an hour. It’s 28 now, including the holiday pay. It should be at least 40 now. In ESOL we are hemoraging good teachers (who would like to stay with us) as they are finding contracts elsewhere. The students are constantly getting new teachers, throughout the year, which is not good. What do the "quality managers" have to say about that?

Zero hours contracts are a disgrace, they should be abolished immediately.

It is utterly unfair that members of staff are trapped on these hourly paid contracts. This must end.

Our ESOL department is constantly interviewing applicants for hourly-paid teachers as our current [excellent!] ones leave because they have managed to find more permanent contracts elsewhere. Of course some decide to leave teaching altogether. This is really disruptive for students who have to adjust to a new teacher and whose classes may be cancelled at short notice because there is no replacement/cover teacher. Recruiting new teachers takes up many hours of managerial/admin time - and how frustrating it must be to know that the teacher you have just recruited is unlikely to remain in their post long-term. Important also is the fact that inexperienced applicants are rejected: in the past, when real jobs existed, applicants with potential would have been taken on and nurtured - because we are an educational establishment for goodness' sake!

This is a disgusting practice in a country that claims itself to be civilised. No-one should be employed under such a contract. Please note that this is how our cleaners (now contracted out) and security staff are employed. Educational institutions should be setting an example of good employment practice not be condoning this kind of thing.

We need to end zero hour contracts for good. I've been on one for 9 years and no sign of a permanent contract being offered!
