No Corporate Welfare!
Our city has focused on the economic build-up of the UNP to the direct detriment of the rest of our city.
The real estate in north UNP is prime I-35 frontage that is developing on its own. Siphoning tax dollars away from our already suffering General Fund is an affront to every Norman resident. The yearly sales tax of $4,000,000 that would come from ending the TIF in UNP is desperately needed!
If OU wants an arena, they can build one. OU Foundation is one of the wealthiest property owners in OK. Giving them corporate welfare is a slap in the face to the many small businesses that have devoted their lives to bettering Norman without requiring public subsidies from our city.
Focus on bettering Norman, as a whole, to bring quality jobs and *public* quality of life projects. We already have plenty of minimum wage jobs and tip-dependent jobs. People move here, and college grads stay here, for real careers, not to work in an arena or wait tables at a restaurant.

I am totally opposed to the UNP as it stands now. I believe this is poor management of city money. We DO NOT NEED ANOTHER ARENA FOR ANY PURPOSE!! Approve zoning for restaurants, clubs and shops and let PRIVATE INVESTORS build up the area. What we absolutely should not do is build an arena for OU which we will see no proceeds from or more housing in this area. I will be watching how this is handled by our Mayor and City Council. I will absolutely vote in the next elections. Put this on a ballot and let Norman Residents decide this issue!

it also doesn’t address wastewater. which will not be a cheap addition. and with the exception of target i’ve spent less than $1000 in the current unp area. if there is more traffic i might not even frequent target.

I do not understand this project at all, especially the location. The traffic in that area is already bad and this would make it impossible. Many people depend on that route to get to and from work, whether the are driving in to work or go to school at OU, or heading out of Norman to work in OKC. I am one of those people, and know how congested Flood already is, as well as some of the cross streets. I do not understand why, if a new stadium is really needed by the basket ball team, it can't be at Lloyd Noble Center, where traffic is less of a problem. I also don't understand why Norman residents are expected to pay for an OU arena--someone explain this to me. I do not like all the building that has been going on in that area already--since I moved her in 1999, one of the big pluses of Norman has been the open space. The shopping center south of the mall is like a ghost town already, and there are empty commercial spaces all over Norman, it is quite noticeable. This whole project is being pushed forward by developers who stand to make money from it, and those they can rope in with dollar signs in their eyes. Continued development like this will mean that the quality of living in Norman will decrease the quality of living for those of us who live here already, and hurt businesses that are already here, especially small businesses, as most of what goes into these big developments are corporate chains. No interest in this.

Absolutely against this project. It's a perfect example of elite interests, developers, and business interests circumventing the democratic process and strong arming the local government officials for their own gain. If the American democratic process were followed here, this would be put to a vote of the PEOPLE. This is what is wrong with our government at all levels.
