No to the plans destroying the character of the historic centre of Olhão in Portugal

The historic centre of Olhao, its markets, cobbled streets, faded grandeur and authentic style is what attracts artists and the more adventurous travellers in search of a genuine experience. What is here now should be preserved and indeed cherished. Olhao is an exceptional and very special place. Great care should be taken to preserve its heritage and avoid the trap of appealing to the mass market and chain developments.

Why do you want to do this! That is the Nice part of Ohlao! Without it you have nothing to attract people!

Have the council in Olhao not learnt from the mistakes of their neighboring councils. Please more restoration and less ugly buildings.

Restoration of the historic buildings and calcadas is the way forward NOT replacement with modern equivalents; which are not wanted by the residents of Olhao.

We stayed in Olhão last year as a midway point on the Algarve to search for our second home. We fell in love with the town & bought our apartment there despite thinking we'd like old town Albufiera or Tavira. The reason is the authentic Portuguese feel. It's not been developed like other places and means we are seeing a traditional town. Yes there may be areas that need some renovating but it should be to fit in with the neighbourhood already there. Transforming Olhão into another touristy Algarve town will spoil the attraction for us - please do not destroy it with plans that are unsympathetic to the existing buildings and marina area.

Sympathetic developments yes, but this is too much for such a significant and unique piece of architectural heritage

I am an artist and think that Olhao is a special place, and it will find its future in maintaining its special character.

Please do not spoil the authentic caracter of the Olhao city center. The European funds to create economic activities can be used without destroying the center. There is space left at the outsides. And save the unique ecologic sytem of the Ria Formosa. Thanks for taking into account my concern.
