We need to protect our natural resources from misuse and abuse. Allo our kids and future generation to be able to enjoy the beautiful San Marcos river for years to come.

The San Marcos River is a gem and needs to be protected so that it can be enjoyed by all. The private outfitters are a part of the problem and cannot be relied upon to provide the solution.

What makes anyone thing that the tubing outfitters care about the river now. They haven't shown any concern in the past as they only want to make money.

There should be a complete no-disposable-container ban on all rivers/lakes/parks in Texas. Any responsible outfitter knows that's best for Texas. An outfitter who says otherwise is just trying to keep drinking customers happy, not keep rivers clean. Let the outfitters figure out how to transport beer instead.

I paddle this river usually several times per month. Self policing will not stop drunks from dropping their can in the river. Drunken tubers turn our rivers into lawless drinking parties unfit for any decent people, particularly children.

The status quo privatizes profit and socializes the true costs: trash on the river. Make the outfitters absorb the full true cost of their business.

I received and read the MOU. I think it is a good thing for the outfitters to look after their customers and make efforts to clean up the mess that they leave behind. However, it does not address the main problem in this area, and that is the lack of law enforcement on the river. The tubers are behaving in ways that would never be tolerated at a business site or on a public street. Until that is addressed, people will not change their behavior. I support the WORD bill for this reason.

This has long been a problem and is getting worse each year as the university grows. Living on the river, even your private yard becomes a trash can, as no one respects your property.

Please take positive action to correct this problem. The solution of having the outfitters self-govern is akin to have the fox responsible for security at the hen house. It might work for a night or two, but chickens will start to disappear once the fox get hungry enough.

The trash needs to stop.We do clean ups on the river & then others throw more trash. The tubers obviously have no respect for the environment I have personally seen the food wrappers, beer containers & dirty diapers being disposed of in & around the water, along with cigarettes Please put a stop to the insanity!

I have stopped taking my family (5 kids now grown and 10 grand children) on the San Marcos river due to the Tubers that put in near the Pecan Retreat site. They have made a mess of a beautiful river in one of its very special sections. The drink cans actually line the bottom like a brick road. I am also an instructor and instructor trainer in river canoe and kayak and do not bring classes to the river anymore due to the conflict between the tubers and any one else on the river. The reduced flow in the other rivers has sent the tubers to the only river running, San Marcos, and they have made it a mess. The land owners cannot control the mess and the tubing venues don't seem to care as long as the tubers come and spend money. If the only beverages you had on the river met with the rules for a state park, the tubers could then drink at the tubing take out (private property) and not polute the river.

The tubers simply do not know to behave on the river, and the business of encouraging bad behavior is making a mess of a former nice river.

The San Marcos River was a beautiful pristine river until several years ago when Don's Fish Camp opened their tubing operation. Now it is a big mess, with unlawful drunks and underage drinkers regularly trashing the river and riverfront owners property. The tubing companies financial incentive is to get more drunks and trashers to tube the river. They cannot be trusted to protect thee river.
