We need help - really strong help. We have300-500 cans
in our yard each weekend. We have LOTS of drunk kids - even passed out and two
completely naked. The sheriff
is very comfortable coming to
our house because we have had to call him so often. We
have 14 grandchildren who
cannot play in the river like it is.

I support the WORD (SB 234/HB 2635). I do NOT support the private plane (MOU) as not being worth the paper it is written on. We have several years of experience with what the Tubing Companies think and do to the river. A leopard does not change its spots.

The San Marcos River is a beautiful Texas Treasure that should be respected and taken care of. I do not understand people who do not take care of it by using their coolers and the trash 'bags' attached to their tubes. I have been going to the San Marcos River since I was 13, which was 1973. As soon as my two sons were old enough, I took them there. I have always shown them to dispose of their trash properly. Please make an effort to fine tubers who do not bring any trash back off the river. Charge them a deposit or something to force them to bring it back with them. Our future generations thank you.

I am not in favor of the tubing outfitters to self-police. Having been there with my children, it was a horrible experience. Hedonistic behavior by high schoolers and college students was appalling. And by the way...this was years ago. I have been there in recent years and it has only gotten worse.

I've seen how well tubers "self-police"their hordes of heedless hedonists. Their freedom to float does not extend to trashing and destroying our beautiful public waterways. Reasonable restrictions should be toughly enforced by us, the public.

Outfitters, in my opinion, have a vested interest in preventing WORD from being implemented because a MOU will allow them to very simply make more money for themselves since WORD will not turn a blind eye to continued abuse of the San Marcos.

Self policing does not work in this case. The tubing outfitters have no interest in protecting what they do not sell. If you believe that they're selling a clean and unharmed river environment I'd like to invite you down for a canoe ride some saturday. You may be surprised...

I have been fortunate to utilize many rivers across the US and there is none with more garbage (mostly aluminum beer cans) than the section of the San Marcos River just downstream from the City of San Marcos. And I know it's because of the tubers.

If the San Marcos River continues to be inundated with tubers, the river and surrounding communities will be negatively affected for years and decades to come. I have seen first hand the vulgar behavior on the San Marcos River many times. There has been times where I could barely paddle my canoe through the bank to bank blanket of yellow tubes carrying drunk, disrespectful and apathetic tubers. Please Protect one of Texas' most sacred waterways, the core of which has supported man-kind for thousands of years.

I no longer live in Texas but between 1992 and 2010 I paddled the San Marcos River and taught canoeing and swiftwater rescue on the river many times. I've also seen the effect of tubing on the Guadalupe River in New Braunfuls. I have no faith in the tubing outfitters to police their own operations - none! Support Senate Bill 234.

I have participated in the San Marcos River Cleanup for many years and know that there is no self policing. The river is a mess and needs a ban on disposable aluminum containers.

Based on the information I continually receive from the Texas River Protection Association I support a government solution (SB 234) and not the private "MOU" plan.

im a paddler. We clean up the river every spring and fall. It's disgusting with all the trash and beer cans. We can't even collect it all
