I have spent many pleasurable hours kayaking on the Sa Marcos. My son learned to canoe there in Boy Scouts. It breaks my heart to see what has happened on the river in recent years. Please vote no on the "private plan" they are part of the problem. Take back the river of all citizens, vote yes on WORD WITH a can ban. Better yet - make the San Marcos a linear park.

I've only been here in TX for 8 years but I have noticed how the river has gotten worse over this short time frame. getting ready to take three teens down the river a the end of the school year. It'll be a sin for them to see the trash that's there.

Thank you for your efforts on behalf of SB 234. As a paddler on the San Marcos R. since the early 1970s, I don't think rape is too strong a word for what the tubers have done to that once beautiful and pristine stream.

I live on the San Marcos River below Dons, Pecan Park, Cool River, and SW Texas Tubes. The trash is horrible, the noise is Horrible, the drunks are horrible. I feel like the Indian in the "DONT MESS WITH TEXAS" ADS. I just want to weep while our beautiful River is being destroyed.. Help..

I want to thank the outfitters for putting together the MOU. It contains all the reasons why the WORD is needed.

I enjoy floating the river as much as anyone else. But to treat it as one's own personal playground without any regard to the river itself or the property owners near it is shameful.
The fact that these individuals are attempting to PROFIT from publicly held waters and refuse to seriously contribute to any efforts to keep it clean is reprehensible. The excuse that any imposed fees would hamper their profits shows a blatant disregard for the river and those who own property by it and their property values which are greatly impacted by the complete disregard the Tubing Outfitters and their patrons have for this precious resource.
Protect the river, not the profits.

Please pass Senate Bill 234. San Marcos is a beautiful river that my family has enjoyed paddling over the years. We would like to see it back in a pristine state!

Tubers seem to think the river is Las Vegas and what happens there stays there without any regard for others. My family and I canoe the river and we have had tubers grab our boat, try to jump in, cuss at my kids. The companies promote this behavior. The Guadalupe in Comal County has a strong law enforcement presence and the San Marcos does not. The tube companies promote the lack of law enforcement to get the younger crowd to come here saying you won't be hassled like you are on the Guad.

It should be criminal to pollute the San Marcos River the way these reckless water recreators are doing east of the interstate. This has to be stopped now because it will only get worse with more students attending Texas State and more students moving into the apartment complex at Capes Camp right on the River. The weird thing is that they are all drawn to the river because of it's beauty, but expect the area to be cleaned of theirs trashy habits as if it were a ride at Sea World. Then with the for profit companies not seeming to care yet it is the beauty of the river that allows their for profit businesses to exist. Weird human nature. Let's control it with laws so everyone has a common code of conduct to follow.

I am an Arkansas resident, but my family and I come to visit the San Marcos very frequently. It is such a treasure, and such a great part of the beauty of Texas to us all. Please help protect it!

I agree, the tubers are creating a mess. Make the tubing companies hire outside companies to clean the river, they can pass the costs on to the tubers that are creating the problem.
