It seems beyond belief that we will have nominally 'personal' data, but no personal space in which to store it. Cloud storage is vulnerable and unreliable. Is there a single member of teaching staff who'd be willing to defend this imposition on our data and the way we maintain it?

Publishers routinely use email now to convey pdf and other files for editing and proofreading purposes--often on tight deadlines. This would appear to fall under legitimate Goldsmiths work. With ongoing projects, particularly, a radical change of server and/or outsourced email and having one's hard-drive 'wiped' could have serious consequences, both for efficiency and privacy.

I was without my machine for 3 weeks in September and October 2013 (this is documented with the Help Desk and IT) - all because of problems with the campus server. We simply *can't* rely on the server 100% of the time, be it for teaching preparations, research or printing.

It's bad enough having slow or no email access, but slow or no access to work files will be paralysing. Sensitive data will be available for snooping. Terrible idea all round.

I am particularly concerned about losing my hard drive. Like all computer users I keep a range of files on my hard drive, some work related, some personal. This is just a matter of convenience

For years we've been told not to use cloud based software due to various legal issues. Prism and Snowden are not inconsiderable totems to plainly ignore and change policy based purely on cost analysis.
