Say NO to the "Swim with the Tuna" experience at Victor Harbor, say NO to aquaculture on the Fleurieu.

This is just stupid. One of the most iconic south Australian coastlines and your gonna ruin it.

We must protect what little is left - don't interfere please!!!

Aqua culture has a significant environmental foot print. Unconsumed food, fish excrement, net cleaning chemicals, and fish antibiotics all interfere with local ecosystems. This effect is greater in sheltered, shallow water, low current environments like this location. It will be a point food source for sharks, fur seals, sea birds, etc. This unbalancing of the local ecosystem will interfere with threatened endangered species like the fairy penguins and leafy sea dragon. Local water users will face an increased risk of interactions with large sharks. The University of Hawaii completed a 3 year study on shark movements and aqua culture. It concluded apex predators will loiter at the pen sites for 3-4 weeks as part of their migratory run. Second tier shark species will take up residence at the pen sites. The proposed site is adjacent the local town beach, surf breaks and local sailing club. Do we want to be a test case for mixing aqua culture and recreational water use? Southern right whales regularly nurse in the sheltered waters adjacent the proposed site. This tuna pen and it's 8 anchor ropes presents an entanglement risk.

This idea is ridiculous and dangerous to our pristine environment, not to mention absurd!

This would be a big mistake

Caged animals for human entertainment is so last century. What about the pollution, animal cruelty, increased shark activity, bad for SA clean green reputation, Bad, Bad, Bad.

as a surfer with kids that surf I'm aware of the risk of my sport.i also kayak fish the are with my wife and am dead against some rich crew making money with an idea that will attract more than normal amounts of big sharks.

I want my grandkids to experience our pristine coastline ..it's always about development ...just stop!!!

Without studies of water circulation in Encounter Bay, and given the presence of threatened and protected species in the area, this is an unreasonable experiment to undertake. For comparison, a permanent observatory structure (a windowed building located on the seabed and allowed to be colonised naturally, from the outside) would be a more acceptable year-round attraction, consistent with the Marine Park management plan for the waters in which it is located. The unnecessary risks associated with keeping animals in captivity, managing their waste and potential entanglement of wild predator and scavenger species could thus be eliminated entirely.

The community of Victor Harbor and surrounds do not need a "pig sty of the sea" aka tuna pen on it's door step. Pig sty of the sea are what tuna pens are known as by the local tuna fisherman of Port Lincoln,...if the people with the most experience in such matters call tuna pens so, then why on earth would Victor Harbor council be contemplating an idea such as this?

Leave this industy for port lincoln and the Ayre peninsula to have the tourism. Victor is perfect the way it is!!!

I totally oppose this idea, it will impact on the environment of the area and attract sharks. Fish in cages is not tourism.

No fish or animals should be in cages like this - the RSPCA should be involved - this is cruel to those Tuna's and will bring little economical value to the region. After all one has to ask why they wish to move it from Port Lincoln and why Kangaroo Island does not want this Tuna Pen if it is such a great solution for bringing tourism? Personally I rather see whales and dolphins than Tuna and do not want to see an increase in shark population which is a logical outcome with this Tuna pen!
