"NO" to a MEN's Shelter in our area--Wyckoff/Hart Street, Bushwick BK

I live in the area and my husband was speaking to some of the workers. They were telling this was becoming a coworking space. They were not only not sharing the info but they were actively lieing and spreading a rumor.

No need for a men’s shelter in our neighborhood that is located within close proximity of an elementary PS 123 and middle school IS162. . Our students safety comes first.

This is a clear scam to the system where a landlord profits from the city on the backs of the residents!

Total financial decision by two opportunist building owners who don't live in the neighborhood and clearly tried to disguise their motive. Pretty sure the two men would not allow a men's shelter next door to their family homes. This neighborhood has already had enough trouble to take another giant step back. It's taken a long time for families with children to rebuild this area. I see school children walk by this building every day. I would be a concerned parent knowing my young daughter has to take this route to school every day. For those who haven't lived near a shelter, I highly recommend you to take your family near one for a few hours and experience the discomfort by yourselves. I wonder if you'd be ok with leaving your kids by themselves to play next to a men's shelter. I can write down a list of things my family and I have experience but, it's highly inappropriate to jot them down here. No to this shelter, especially when the two owners knew the residents in this neighborhood would be against it and discretely tried to take advantage of us who live here.

There is very little information available about this project in a area that has a drug problem. It isn’t a good idea to install a shelter for young men in an active drug peddling area with schools around as well as a ton of nightlife. I read an idea about homeless kids and women somewhere and that’s the only thing that can work here. Otherwise we go back to Bushwick of 10 years ago with crime and non stop nuisance. Also our police precinct is already unable to respond to crime and DHS is depending on them to provide support to the shelter. They are not answering any questions. Time to call DHS Brooklyn and the mayors office because our councilman is not conveying our feelings.

More info needed before they open this

We already have a Women/Children shelter down the street on Flushing Ave. Our neighborhood is already doing its part. Put this shelter in a neighborhood that doesn’t already have one.

We do not agree in a mens shelter opening up. It is a disgrace that as the community we were not informed about this project. What we really need is women's shelter and/ or for families.

No men’s shelter in Bushwick, I have a shelter next to me on 33 Lawton St and those people are mentally unstable, there are stabbings in there and people gathered outside and heckle passersbye for money. A community with families, children, schools and the elderly don’t need the extra headache, they already have enough with what we have. No to a men’s shelter! Build it in the upper east side or Brooklyn Heights!

Shameful location to house homeless men! This is a totally residential neighborhood with young families with children! The building is tall enough to overlook the backyards of all the homes behind them. With the public schools in the area, this should be against the law! This is clearly a financial decision (only for a few) with total disregard for the neighborhood! Do we want to go back to the way it was? Can we hold you totally responsible for the devastation it will bring??

The center of our community is no place for a mens shelter! Grocery store, subway, schools, parks all within a block of this location - say NO!

This is a terrible location for a men's shelter! This is a rich building owner looking to get richer by ruining our neighborhood!

Totally against it

This is definitely not a suitable location for a homeless shelter. Especially since this is a neighborhood near our schools, our parks where children play, our homes and areas where we shop. Keyfood Grocery, our Post Office, our Laundry facility are all right across the street from this building. We also need to walk past it everyday when commuting to and from work or school as bus routes and the Dekalb L train are all on the corner from it. This shelter will create fear for our families driving them to move elsewhere, businesses will suffer or move, crime will increase and our property values will go down. We live right across the building and have so for 13 years now and hope they will find a more suitable area to place this shelter where it is not in such close proximity to our homes and for our and our kids safety.
