No-one would give planning permission they wanted a brand new airport overflying London, so why are we adding to an unacceptable concept?

We have lived in Kew for 37 years and am horrified at the thought of the expansion of Heathrow. Health and safety is rammed down our throats non stop. Why does that not apply to Heathrow?

Heathrow is already at capacity and we now hear that a possible third runway will mean that there is not evought airspace for the extra planes, nor enough land space for the extra cars

Heathrow Airport's operators have finally admitted they will not be able to cope with the congestion caused by a third runway without introducing a punitive congestion charge of some sort.

I have just heard about the need for a high congestion charge to cope with the added traffic and keep air pollution levels in the Heathrow area if a 3rd runway is built. It just proves what I feared - i.e. that not only would we in SW London be suffering even more noise from aircraft but that traffic congestion and pollution would be intolerable. In addition, the residents of SW London would be penalised further by added driving costs.

I strongly object to the proposed expansion of Heathrow Airport by the construction of a third runway. I have lived in SW13/SW14, under the flight path into Heathrow, from 1954 till the present day and am well aware of all the sorts of pollution (air/noise/traffic) inherent in living near to a huge airport. Enough is enough.

To have an outsize airport to the west of a huge capital city where the wind direction is predominantly westerly is already nonsensical. To expand such an airport is mad and dangerous. The noise from aircraft and the air pollution they produce are already barely sufferable. I realise that "Big Business" (especially foreign-owned) cares nothing about local residents, but for our Government to ignore our concerns is outrageous and totally unacceptable. Gatwick and Stansted are just as accessible and don't have such a dense and vulnerable population near to them; Also, being south and north of the city the flight paths would not carry more planes over London. There should be a total ban on flights between 11 pm and 6.30 am.

I strongly oppose Heathrow expansion. The noise is bad now and expansion would make it intolerable.

Life is about more than the business lobby. Issues of air quality, traffic congestion, noise, and safety from catastrophic air incidents, are such that no sane (ordinary) person could support a third Heathrow runway.

Heathrow should never have been put where it is. The future must see the load shared among the 5 airports around London.

The sooner we bite the bullet and develop a proper long-term alternative to Heathrow, the better.
