Lives are lost because of Donald Trump. People are dying. Please think for one second, about the implications of his rhetoric, before fretting that those pitted against him are “whiny PC police.” We are scared for our lives. Sure, he’s a blubbering idiot and a terrible, broke businessperson who would likely get impeached if elected. But his power lies in feeding on and strengthening the deeeeeply rooted racism, misogyny and xenophobia that many people in this country have not woken up from. He is empowering and mobilizing a very large group of people to feel comfortable and justified in their bigotry. Bigotry is not just a buzzword. Look it up, and look within yourself for all the negative perceptions you’ve internalized and own up to it. If you support this rhetoric, you are the problem. You are the reason black and brown and trans lives are being lost at staggering rates. You are creating the climate where that is acceptable. Giving this man a platform at WCU speaks volumes about the true values of this university, which happens to be my alma mater. I sincerely hope you'll reconsider this - if only for the negative PR.
