We the under signed hereby petition the Queensland Government to change the sentences given for the murder of Babies and Children. It is appalling that babies are tortured to death and their adult perpetrators are receiving sentences that are not reflective on the life they have taken. The recent case where Justice Boddice found a sentence of 10 years was not justified. The perpetrator Michael Humphrey's systematically tortured 31 day old Paige. Humphrey's pleaded guilty resulting in a reduced plea to Manslaughter. and this is when the injustice began. It is time this practice stopped, Murder is murder and pleading guilty is what should be the outcome. This should not give the perpetrator a reduced sentence. The sentencing years available for the murder of a baby or a child is insignificant and these should be increased, age or size does not reduce the pain and loss to a family it increases it.

Please help us to change the QLD Justice System by signing the petition, we will then forward it to the respective ministers and deptartment of Justice.

Updates

January 28, 2017

I have been reading through the comments all morning and honestly the stories people are leaving are just heartbreaking but I am so glad we are finally talking about this because the current system feels so broken. I spent hours yesterday drafting up packets of notes to send to the department of justice since they definitely need to hear about the anger parents are feeling right now. It is just impossible to fathom how someone could think ten years is enough for what happened to little Paige.

Been where you are Sarah the system is greatly flawed. Petition the attorney general. Sentence should reflect the life lost ie. Infant has 80yrs ahead sentence should be 80yrs for offender

9 years for murdering a baby, and billabong CEO gets 8 years for fraud.. yes things need to be changed!

You've taken away a life that hasn't even begun. Your sentence should be longer than any form of murder/mans slaughter and what ever falls under that category. A life! One that hasn't even started yet!

The laws in this country are deplorable. Stop giving murderer's and those who abuse the defenseless such as babies, children, the elderly, disabled and animals slaps on the wrist and start making them pay for their heinous crimes. To take a life is to forfeit yours. Life behind bars is mild compared to a life without your baby. Start giving victims & their families justice and a little piece of mind knowing the perpetrator cannot do it again.

Another example of the system failing. The punishment handed out by Justice Boddice was disgusting, Paige was tortured and murdered and Michael Humphrey's gets a slap on the wrist. Why did he not get sentenced to life?

Courts should also introduce genuine HARD LABOUR. Get prisoners out digging/preparing future areas eg for rail travel to top end for example & dams for farmers
