Why move the prison only a few miles? Absolutely ridiculous that they are even considering it and a misuse of funds in my opinion.

This cannot happen! The proposal is build the prison adjacent to Harvest Hills. The aurguement about jobs is false. We are a commuter community and chose to be that way. We want to drive to work. Our community is full of children. The planners must look at the demographics. Please sign the petition and contact our state representative - David E. Lifferth (R)

Why would they want to destroy one of the states most up and coming cities with a prison!? Too many families! The prison needs to be out where it isn't an eye sore and burden on the community.

I think it should go out next to the airport. It solves one of their criteria, which is being in close proximity to the airport. The airport location won't burden a family community whether that be in Tooele County or here in Saratoga. An airport location, in my opinion, would be the best location that would better serve Davis, Tooele, Salt Lake, and Utah Counties overall.

Don't let our community be bullied into accepting this!! Unfortunately only 15% of the decision is based on community support!! Our community is not even represented on the Prison Relocation Committee, while WVC, Kearns, Murray and Draper are represented (the other sites are only mentioned as being in SL county). Additionally, two members of the committee have professions listed as construction and property management (which the reasoning in even moving it is for the prime real estate).

How many times are inmates going to be going to court once they are convicted? As far as hospitals, build an adequate onsite facility!! I spent 100+ hours at the current prison infirmary for my nursing capstone and while it is outdated, it is adequate for most of their needs. Why would inmates need access to public transportation?? And finally employees, I would rather see compensation for relocation given to the employees. Most people have to commute to work and there are probably several options AWAY from developed communities that are within a reasonable commuting distance!!!

In the 60+ yrs the prison has been in Draper the only development to go in around it is industrial...because NO ONE wants to be neighbors with the prison!!! So, the Prison Relocation Commission wants to put it RIGHT NEXT to a developed community, where the homeowners have no choice!! Rep Hughes (a member of said commission) compared people not wanting the prison in their city to people not liking schools in their neighborhoods...REALLY??? Rep Hughes lives in DRAPER and his profession is Construction and Property Management!! WTHeck!!! 35% of the criteria for the location is based on proximity to courts, hospitals, public transportation, major highways, and large population to draw volunteers and employees, while only 15% is based on community support for the location. (15% is also given to environmental impact...let's see environmental impact is given equal consideration as community support???)

Looking at their criteria for the best location, it seems pretty clear that the best location is right where it currently is!
So why is a relocation being considered? Is it so a few people can make a lot of money, at the expense of the taxpayers?

I am in talks with a builder to start plans for our home on the Lake. I have been so excited to build our dream home and now I am afraid to invest in a home near a potential prison. I have 2 kids and relocated to Utah recently. Saratoga Springs is such a booming city. The construction alone is amazing considering the weak economy. I am shocked and disappointed that a state would throw a wet blanket on a growing city. Larger homes in a desirable area usually command greater taxes which the state can use. A prison sucks the life out of a community and creates an environment of fear. It is very toxic. This would be a non issue in my home state. This gives Utah a bad name.
