The Town of Montreal West is a quiet community of some 5000 people dubbed "The Garden Suburb". It's 1 1/2 block main street Westminster Avenue has been home to family businesses for some 100 years, giving our town it's distinct character.
Recently Pharmaprix has purchased the lot at the corner of Sherbrooke and Westminster and the adjacent lot currently belonging to the Medicentre, intending to build a large retail outlet.
- a store this large is not in keeping with the character of the town architecturally
- a chain store of this size is not in keeping with our town in a
community sense
- the corner of Westminster and Sherbrooke is already a traffic nightmare with the train tracks, etc. Further traffic problems due to ingress and egress from the Pharmaprix parking area are predictable.
- as a large project, with huge potential impact on the town of Montreal West, public consultation should have been essential.
We therefore ask the mayor and town councilors to intercede on behalf of the citizens of Montreal West and prohibit Pharmaprix from building a store on this location.
I was staring at the screen and realized how many people actually care about protecting our little main street and it really caught me off guard in the best way possible. It is honestly bizarre to think that just a while ago I was worried nobody would listen but now the momentum feels real and it keeps hitting me that we might actually stop this pharmacy from ruining that corner.

We need to protect the look of our town. A massive building there will look terrible. Stop this before it starts.

Why are we even considering this. Our town is special because of the local shops. Once you bring in a giant chain everything changes.

seriously?? that intersection is dangerous enough as it is. Adding more cars is just asking for a major accident. think about the residents.

Traffic on Sherbrooke is already a joke. This will make it impossible to get in or out of town during rush hour. BAD IDEA.
