The Metro board chose Hawthorne Boulevard and our residential backyards will finally stay quiet. I am overwhelmed by the result because this outcome protects our neighborhood for the long haul. Keep an eye on the upcoming construction plans to ensure they stick to the promise of commercial development.

In the Summer of 2018 the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority will decide between extending the Green Line commuter train through 40 blocks of residential neighborhoods along the Harbor Subdivision ROW (Alternative 1), or along the center of Hawthorne Boulevard, a commercial avenue (Alternative 2). As residents of Lawndale and Redondo Beach, we demand Metro say NO ON ROW and YES ON HAWTHORNE!
ALTERNATIVE 2 will bring much needed foot traffic and increased sales to the businesses along Hawthorne Boulevard, and run down a wide center median that was designed for and previously contained a railway track. ALTERNATIVE 2 is a forward thinking pro-business solution that would help Hawthorne boulevard become a thriving commercial zone. In addition, this route would serve more densely populated areas and therefore increase ridership- Metro's main objective.
If Metro instead chooses to extend the Green Line through the Harbor ROW Subdivision with Alternative 1, there will be constant commuter trains running through the backyards of thousands of residents- spreading noise and air pollution, damaging foundations through vibration, and plummeting home values. The entire community would feel the negative impact of snarled traffic at every crossing, and it would mean the destruction of the Harbor ROW green belt. There are also huge safety concerns, as trains would be running past schools and parks where children play, and along a major gas line that has a history of destructive accidents.
For all of these reasons we demand that Metro choose ALTERNATIVE 2 as the only pro-resident, pro-safety, pro-business, and pro-commuter choice. Join us, sign this petition, and let your voice be heard. Metro may have the right-of-way but WE HAVE THE RIGHT OF SAY! And we say that Alternative 2 is the only acceptable option.

Seeing one thousand signatures on this page hits home because it proves our neighborhood will not accept a train running through our backyards. I grew up in this area and knowing so many neighbors share this fear gives me real hope for our upcoming meeting with the board.

The current DEIR is defective. It fails to consider the substantial evidence that the right-of-way paths will damage community health and cause early death based on both NIH research and BCHD's Blue Zones.
Hawthorne makes more sense! Revitalize businesses. The gas pipelines are literally in our townhome community's backyard. The pipelines and vibrations from constant train traffic would be a safety concern for residents and property.
I am closer to Inglewood Ave than Condon and the ROW, I support the Hawthorne Blvd option. I really worry about having a light rail run parallel to a high pressure gas line and how it will affect the quality of living for Lawndale residents whose homes are close to Condon Ave.
I have been a resident of lawndale for 48 years and know many families, including many seniors living in the alternative R route. This would be a disastrous choice for a metro route. Alternative H is a commercial zone
The preserving the quality of life of the residents along the existing tracks must be an over-riding priority when an alternative is available. The Hawthorne route is by far the least disruptive alternative.
Putting this train unnecessarily in a neighborhood when it can easily go on Hawthorne Blvd a heavily commuted highway is cruel and unjust

Hawthorne blvd is the appropriate place to put transportation stations and lines. It’s the traffic corridor and people will be likely able to transfer to other busses at that location. No rail shoukd be installed near the homes.
