No New Dispensary

As residents of this neighborhood since 1999, our family has worked side by side along the other families here to rid the neighborhood of crime, vagrancy and the businesses that seem to attract those activities. Liquor stores have become family owned restaurants, coffee shops have opened - and most importantly - families with their young children celebrate the neighborhood by walking to any of several school EVERY DAY. The proposed location of this dispensary is DIRECTLY on the walking school bus route to Peralta Elementary as well as the other schools listed in the petition - I cannot imagine a worse message to be sending our young children by leading them past a marijuana dispensary each day on their way to school. Legalized cannabis, like alcohol and cigarettes, is legal. Just where and how it is sold is a decision that city planners need to be sensitive and mindful about. Permitting this dispensary to go in to a family neighborhood would be a devastating mistake.

Not a big fan of these dispensaries, they bring a lot of traffic and a mixture of characters from all over town, cause parking issues, they have a lot of security guards and really add nothing to the neighborhood. As others have mentioned there is already a dispensary just a couple of blocks away from this proposed location. Can Amazon just step in with easy delivery and do away with the need for these on our streets?

This is such a high vehicle traffic location, it doesn't make sense to locate such a business here; and, the the schools are way too near.

This is a really bad location for a dispensary. It's right near a cluster of schools. The sidewalk is full of schoolchildren and babies riding in strollers. The neighborhood already has to cope with another dispensary five minutes away. Placement of dispensaries requires thoughtful city planning, and putting one here would be a very poor move.

I do not want drugs sold in my neighborhood, legal or not. I have seen the vibe around dispensaries and I don't like it. I have kids and this is a family neighborhood.

This is a partially residential building and this intersection already has a very high rate of traffic accidents. This location should not be approved

I'm for legalized cannabis, but this is not the place for a dispensary.

I don't understand. There is another dispensary a couple of blocks away. Why would we need another one?

I live within 2 blocks of this location in a family neighborhood. There is already a marijuana dispensary a few blocks away and no need for a second one so close in such a family area.

We do not want or need this in our community.

That corner is already so busy and dangerous, it would be fuel to the fire to have a dispensary there. Maybe a Buddhist temple....

We do not need a pot another pot store in our neighborhood. The one we have on Shattuck has been nothing but trouble. Please deny their application.

We have a dispensary in the neighborhood a 5 minute walk away. We have dozens of young children walking to and from school that will have to walk past people getting stoned if this location is approved. Traffic will increase on already very congested Shattuck and Alcatraz Avenues and we will have DUI drivers coming and going. NO THANKS! This does not belong in our neighborhood.

This proposed pot store is neither an educational "institute" nor a "dispensary" of any necessary cure. It is a profit making retail pot store which should be barred from its proposed location as it clearly degrades the safety and quality of our residential neighborhood. It does not serve any underserved population as there is an identical pot store a few minute stroll to the North. We rely on you, dear City of Oakland to protect us from the danger of this pot store's commercialization of the deadening inertia engendered by cannabis consumption. Please, dear City of Oakland, do not sell our health, our safety, the quality of our neighborhood for the tax revenues promised by this pot store. We have worked so hard to make our neighborhood a safer and more welcoming residential community. Please do not erase all of our long years of neighborhood commitment by selling our street corner to the hideous nuisance threatened by this pot store and its patrons. This application poses a clear and present danger to our children, our neighborhood, and dare I say it...to our property values. Dear City of Oakland, please deny this application to ruin our neighborhood. We depend on you to protect us.

I supported decriminalization of marijuana, but I don't want this in our neighborhood.

This is a residential neighborhood that already has a large dispensary just a few blocks away that's open 9am to 9pm, seven days a week, which hugely impacts the neighborhood with lines of card and noise. It is not fair to further impact this one neighborhood. Seems like there may be some sort of loophole since one is in Berkeley and one is in Oakland so proximity to one another might not be being considered. One of the drawbacks about living near the border of two cities!!!

This is not any different from establishing a pawn shop, a liquor store, a smoke shop, or a massage parlor in a family neighborhood. We don't need it.

For our children and our community, I strongly oppose this dispensary in our neighborhood. Many problems confront Oakland, Lack of cannabis is not one of them. Quite the opposite!
