A horrible way to teach our children the fundamentals that does not encourage big picture thinking.

I am sick and tired of my children who used to absolutely love math, until this year, cry while doing their math homework because they don't get it!! I used to homeschool my children and know how much they love school and math in general and how good they are at it. I think it is crazy that my 3rd grader was taught division before multiplication, now that they have taught her multiplication she gets division. I have heard many teachers make comments against common core and just the other day one of my child's teachers gave up while teaching them math. They got to problem 6 on their worksheet and she told them to X the rest of the worksheets out and made comments to the class about how crazy it is. They say changing to common core is to help them be successful in college I have returned to college after being out of school for 18 years and not knowing anything about common core. I have taken math classes and english classes, I have maintained a GPA of 3.75 and made the Dean's list each semester, therefore, I do not see the need for common core. If anything it is going to make my children completely hate math and want to give up just like they see their teachers doing. And on their math worksheets there is a website to go to for help, I went to the website and needed a login from the school to be able to access it. When I called the school to asked for the info they were told that had to be paid for and they would not be paying for it.

And if you notice on your child's math worksheets it has a website for McGraw Hill to go to for help, once their you have to have login information from the school. I called my children's school to ask for that login information and was told the school had to pay for that and they weren't going to....aggravating!!! I was given a website by the School Board President for help...I do not like this common core and do not plan on using it any more than necessary and if have to I will go back to homeschooling my children, but to get them through this year and for those parents that don't have that option the website is www.kahnacademy.com. Maybe it will help you understand and be able to help your children get through this crap!!!

As a mother of 3 I know that all children learn differently. Common Core will not give "wiggle room" for the teacher to teach based on the CHILDS needs. Also, home involvement is huge in a child's education success. How are parents supposed to help their children with these new standards? I can't work with my child in a way that he/she understands because if it's not done the Common Core way then it's the wrong way. Are all parents going to have to go back to school to learn these new methods? Parents and teachers need to be involved in decisions concerning advancement in education, NOT executives and money hungry companies!

We need common core to be removed. When my children come home and need help with their homework, I can't help them because I was not taught that way and when I do help them it's wrong! It's frustrating!

My daughter will start Kindergarten this fall and I want Common Core stopped before she sets foot in a school. I could teach her better from home.

I am not pleased with the Common Core Standards. I see hundreds of children each year in schools in my area. This bill is not in any way what these children truly need. I will do whatever I can to make sure it is not initiated in our schools

Having a child in 4th grade, and one in highschool has shown me how much common core is failing my youngest. I want the North Kansas City School District who didn't bother teaching common core to the parents, to step up, and re-teach these children a simpler less stress induced, time waste of a curriculum that is only creating lower test scores. Especially timed test scores. Make this right!!!

As a child psychiatrist and past consultant to various school districts, I oppose the basic principles of Common Core.

Common Core is an educational manifestation of the Administration's abhorrent anti-American, unconstitutional indoctrination of our children. It takes all choice, freedom and control of content away from parents, teachers, schools, districts and states. Common Core standards, strategies and forced revisionist content will not be adhered to in our home. We have 3 exceptional children, ages 9, 10 and 14. All have special needs and unique learning styles. Common Core takes none of this into account. We will never conform. I have never seen so many lions controlled by so few sheep.

Common Core does not work for our students nor our teachers. We should have a right, as a state, to decide what is best for our schools - NOT the Federal Government that does not do their research properly before instituting something that has no room for change.
