I am a native San Franciscan, graduate of USF, served at the Presidio in my military career and until today, proud to call SF my hometown. I will never spend another day or another dime in The City if this is not revoked.

There are a lot of Heroes in our country that need to be remembered. This person definitely should take a number first.

How is someone who just stabbed someone, then walks around with knife in hand getting a special day or day of remembrance? I will not spend any money in SF again. No more date nights, no warriors games when they move, I will not be attending the Super Bowl city now. This is the most ridiculous thing I have ever seen.

This man was carrying a weapon, refused to follow orders by police and chose to disobey. He put himself in the situation and ended up losing his life because of his selfish choices. So now we're going to have a remembrance day for him? And all other suspects/ criminals etc will be expecting and demanding the same.. This is sickening

Let me get this straight. A criminal gets himself an official day???????? He had a lengthy criminal record, had served time in prison, and had just slashed a complete stranger. And the city sets aside a day to honor him?????

This is a shameful disgrace to San Francisco and its civic minded residents.

How about a day of remembrance for the officers who died stopping violent felons like Mario?

This is disgraceful. The man was a criminal, who was refusing commands... and advancing on officers with a KNIFE! Honoring him is stabbing every single law enforcement officer in the city and the nation in the back.

Police officers risk their lives every day. There is no day of remembrance when an officer dies. Honoring a criminal is not appropriate.

Board of supervisors should be recalled. Honor the police that put themselves in harms way for us not the felon with a knife that just stabbed someone.

I am so ashamed of our Board of Stupidvisors. How can we honor a man who was a suspect in a stabbing assault, a just recently paroled felon, that challenged the SFPD by his refusal to drop a weapon/knife while high on drugs. Was this a tragedy? Absolutely. Any loss of life is unnecessary. His life mattered. But so did the guy who he assaulted. And so do the lives of the responding officers. Can SFPD do better? You bet. Among the changes our police force needs are better training and non-lethal weapon options. Was this a tragedy? Absolutely. Any loss of life is unnecessary. Mario Woods' life mattered. The life of the guy he assaulted mattered too, and so do the lives of the responding officers. Does Woods deserve an officially sanctioned Day of Remembrance? Absolutely not!

RIP the San Francisco I was born and raised in. My Grandfather was SFPD killed in the line of duty. Guess he doesn't matter.
