Trimet layover locations are noisy, increase air pollution, decrease property values, and take up valuable commercial space that could otherwise welcome desirable business to our neighborhood. We are opposed to TriMet's short-sighted Woodlawn layover proposal.
A layover site at Dekum and MLK would mean buses idling next to residential homes and directly across the street from elderly and disabled housing, with buses coming and going every fifteen minutes through a quiet residential space.
Some neighbors have already reported experiencing the negative health impacts of idling buses on Dekum, a permanent layover site would substantially increase the amount of pollution from buses in the neighborhood, and it would have the highest impact on our neighborhood's most vulnerable citizens.
TriMet's proposal to put a permanent layover site on Dekum is not a cost-saving measure, it merely outsources the cost to Woodlawn residents, homeowners, and business owners, and we can't afford it!
Dedicated long-term Woodlawn residents have spent years fostering neighborhood and community improvement along the Dekum corridor. Commercial space in the area is more valuable than it has ever been, and TriMet wants to rob the community of any potential retail and commercial growth at the very gateway to our community.
Trimet claims that they value neighborhood input into their selection process. TriMet needs to know that we will NOT tolerate their continued disregard for our neighbors and our community. Tell TriMet that layovers in neighborhoods are undesirable, and don't start here!

I AM CURRENTLY DEMANDING ANSWERS FROM TRIMET OFFICIALS ABOUT WHY THEY THINK OUR HOMES SHOULD BECOME A BUS DEPOT!! THE SILENCE FROM THEM IS LOUD BUT WE ARE KEEPING THE PRESSURE ON FULL BLAST UNTIL THEY LISTEN TO THIS COMMUNITY!!

THIS MOMENTUM IS ABSOLUTELY ELECTRIC!! WOODLAWN IS SHOWING UP IN A MASSIVE WAY TO PROTECT OUR NEIGHBORHOOD FROM THESE IDLING BUSES!! WE ARE MAKING IT IMPOSSIBLE FOR TRIMET TO IGNORE OUR COMMUNITY!!

Not only is the bus layover site near an elderly and disabled community center, it is also near a children's daycare / preschool center. I think the health of our elderly and young children is a top priority and Tri-met should find another layover location.
As a resident of one of the houses overlooking the proposed #1 site, I can say that this horrible plan would dramatically decrease quality of life for the 19+ residents of these houses. My 2 year old son is already awakened EARLY in the morning (before 6am) by loud PA announcements that "bus is turning" - I shudder to think what my newborn will have to live through in terms of noise pollution and air quality if this site is developed in the proposed way. Buses would be coming in steadily until 2am, then starting again at 5am.... all with those "mandatory" PA announcements.... right outside our windows.

It's time to take seriously the propsal to terminate Line 8 near the Interstate MAX line.
Only sites 1 and 11 are actively being considered by TriMet, with site 10 as a fallback position. The other sites have been taken off TriMet's list of possibilities. Site 11 is next to a residence and across the street from a few residences and next to a pet hospital.
Woodlawn is not a good location for the layover station! Listen to your planners, your customers, and neighbors who are impacted by TriMet decisions!

I oppose the 6 most-SW sites being considered -- esp. #7, #6 and #2, but also #1, #9, and #10. These are all much too close to residential neighborhoods. Of TriMet's 2 preferred sites, #11 is much more appropriately located in a more industrial/commercial zone on the north side of Lombard.
