It would be much better for Louisiana to have rehabilitated kids rather than sending them to an adult prison and turn them into hardened criminals! Developing brains of children still have a chance to be healed. Rehabilitate - do not put them through the horrors of Angola!

NO! Kids who do bad things need correction, redirection, hope and a chance to reclaim their lives. They do not deserve hell-on-earth!

There is no way that kids should be housed in Angola at all! Especially not in the former death row cells. MJ

As a former resident of Louisiana and now resident of neighboring Mississippi I can think of nothing more harmful to children than such abusive mistreatment.

Governor Edwards is a Democrat as am I, so this move to me is astounding and unconscionable. I am retired from the Illinois Department of Juvenile Justice (IDJJ) as principal of one of the then 8 Illinois Youth Centers (IYC) which eventually was closed. We were doing wonderful rehabilitative projects in this facility before its close, but this was apparently palatable in the then-Republican environment. I retired before IYC-Murphysboro closed. Some years before I was runner up for Illinois State Teacher of the Year out of then 900 some school districts in the state. As an advocate for incarcerated youth, I find this move to be the most out of touch, stupid, and cruel action by a Democrat for disenfranchised youth I have seen for a long time. I worked with an all male population ages 13 to 21. We had a new building with a confinement area that was painted pink in the style of Sheriff Arpaio in Maricopa County, AZ. I railed against this, only to have confinement be painted in a gaudy dark blue. This same confinement was the scene of much cruel treatment of these boys. I could go on and tell more stories. I retired 10 years ago, and I understand that, under our current Democrat governor, IDJJ has improved. These youth should NOT be in a prison setting but rather in small group homelike settings. In our rural southern Illinois area, youth were convinced the Ku Klux Klan were lurking in the nearby woods. Our environments form who we are. Many of these youth already come from poverty and living environments that were terrible, complete with bars, wires, concrete, fences. These youth do not learn from punishment, but from learning new and better ways to behave and live and receiving positive acknowledgement for doing so. Please pass this on to Governor Edwards. Tell him to talk with Governor Pritzker. I am no bleeding heart, but I have spent a lifetime working with disenfranchised youth, primarily in Illinois. Early on I was a nun in East St. Louis, IL.

It's outrageous and immoral to even consider putting teens and young adults in a maximum security prisons with hardened lifelong criminals.
