Louisiana was once a national youth justice leader, investing in a system based in rehabilitation, treatment and care. It can be again, if Governor Edwards makes a different choice and invests in kids, hope and care, instead of punishment.

If the state of Louisiana wants to be in the business of building hardened criminals, then by all means treat juveniles like adult criminals. If they want a restorative process that returns healthy young people to society, do otherwise.

Albert Woodfox spent 43 years of his precious life in this hellhole; he died recently after spending only the last 7 years of his life as a free man. His legacy was a strong and courageous fight for survival for himself and his fellow inmates; read his remarkable story in his book 'Solitary'. I would like to ask Governor Edwards if he would be perfectly happy sending his own kids to Angola and how much money he receives under the table for keeping this death camp alive.
