I have taken a handful of online classes at Berklee, and I STRONGLY oppose the cheapening and degradation of the Berklee institution by "teaching" generative AI that plagiarizes and diminish human artistic capabilities

A school that offers classes on the music business and copyright law can’t coexist with instruction that hinges on the mass flouting of that law. Berklee has to choose one or the other, they can’t have it both ways.

The money that Berklee is putting towards this class could go to numerous arguably better things. Financial aid, student services, tutoring, etc... the list goes on. Funding things like this should be at the very, very bottom of Berklee's list.

This is rough, AI is a dangerous weapon against humanity and human made art. It’s useful for science, analytics, and new discoveries. It should not be used for art though.

AI generating it ruins the whole point of music as a type of art. Art gains it meaning through the creative expression of people, not putting in a prompt

As artists we need to be advocating for ourselves and for the kind of industry we want to have, rather than blindly accepting every new thing that comes our way without question. We do not have to do something just because other people are doing it and we should not be taking action motivated by fear of "falling behind" or the "inevitable." We have all made significant personal and financial sacrifices to be here at Berklee, so why make such sacrifices if we wanted a computer program to do it for us? If we didn't want to do it ourselves, then why be here?
