Preserve Blake Lane Park - Listen to citizens' input. April 2016 Report “Fairfax County Park Authority Needs Assessment Citizen Survey”
4.2.2 COMMUNITY VALUE: In the 2015 Fairfax County Park Authority Needs Assessment Citizen Survey performed by ETC Institute, preserving open space and the environment was deemed to be the most important function for Fairfax County Park Authority to perform.
1.7.2 QUANTITATIVE COMMUNITY INPUT Important themes that emerged from the analysis of the statistically-valid survey included the following:
Park Authority Improvements
1) Agreement with Suggested Improvements: Based on the respondent households' level of agreement, ninety-four percent (94%) indicated they either "strongly agree" or "agree" it is important to preserve open space and environment.
2) Most important to Households: Based on the percentage of respondents' top three (3) most important statements. Fifty-seven percent (57%) indicated that preserve open space and environment is most important to their households.
3) Most Important to Future of Fairfax County: Based on the percentage of respondents' top three (3) most important statements, sixty percent (60%) indicated that preserve open space and environment is most important to the future of Fairfax County.

There is no reason to build a school at Blake Lane Park. Oakton Elementary is less than a mile away and was doubled in size during its expansion only a few years ago. The townhouse and condominium communities surrounding Blake Lane Park comprise a dense living area. The park is our shared community “back yard.” The increase in congestion and traffic in an already heavily populated area would be dangerous and destructive to our property values as well as our quality of life. My husband and I bought our townhome across the street ten years ago with no imaginable possibility that our park would ever be taken away. Please find another location for the school.

Due to the Route 66 widening process many animals (and people seeking green spaces) are being displaced. Please protect this park and all it offers to the community and its members, human and otherwise!

Remove Blake Lane Park from site consideration to build another school. Instead, run water to Waples Mill Elem and increase the size of that school or do a two story addition to Mosby Woods. Get creative..

This area is already saturated and highly congested. The site also appears far too small for a school. Finally why does the County Board feel it must page over every scrap of green in our county? This park is highly utilized by the families living in the multifamily units that surround the park. It escalated as a park and a park it should stay.

We need to keep our green spaces intact and put a school in the area that makes the most sense, which isn’t at the Blake Lane park.

Please consider another location- Blake Lane Park is our only real green space in this area and does so much for our community. Taking it away is taking away a beautiful part of this town.

It is clear to me that with all the development projects on the planning board in the immediate area that the BOS has sold out to developers. This soon will no longer be a residential area. Very sad!

It’s really galling when you can’t trust elected officials to follow through on commitments. This vote needs to be postponed!

Blake Lane Park is vital to the Oakton community. Important for family use, playing clubs and general open air use. There are currently at least 6 elementary schools within a 5 mile radius of the projected site. Traffic in the area along the Blake lane, bushman drive and 123 corridor is already over congested. Adding a school will exacerbate the traffic problems in the area. The Oakton area is already dealing heavily with the I-66 expansion. We are loosing much of our tree growth to the freeway project. Because of this it is imperative that we keep our one open air green space. Many of the officials signed letters of agreement to NOT move forward with a Elementary school building proposal on the Blake Lane Park site. It is now time to stand by your word!
