Homeless individuals are part of our community, and appropriating park law to further marginalize rough sleepers isn't promoting well-being for all. There are solutions that fit the needs of the entire community. This petition is not one of them.

Don't be reductionist of the homeless experience. These people haven't given up on life, you're thinking of victims of suicide. I invite you to pick up a copy of Real Change and read first person experiences as to why individuals became homeless in Seattle. Our economic system has pushed poverty-stricken individuals to be one paycheck or medical bill away from rough sleeping.

In today's Seattle, human life is more important than tree life. Further marginalizing individuals who need to be proximal to sustaining services will create a more hostile environment. Use your distaste of park occupation to fight for more accessible shelters and housing. These are some of the last places that rough sleepers can go without immediately being removed.

I walk the parks daily and the disgusting nature of what these encampments are doing to this very limited, valuable nature space is deplorable. It has to stop and stop NOW! The fact that the city is allowing this to continue is outrages.

I don’t understand why our taxes were raised for park improvement and now we have pop-up camps all overt the city!

I think there should be a law against people living in vehicles as well inside our city limits unless they are hooked up to proper utilities.

When I was a child I played in the Seattle parks, including the forested areas with deep brush. When I was a college student I would go to the nearby Seattle parks and pick up as much trash as I could. Now, any child or young adult who does these things is in danger of a needle stick. These are who the parks should be for, these are who should be SAFE in the parks. Many young minority children do not get the opportunity to travel outside of the city to experience nature. The parks are all they have. On top of the dangers, the homeless encampments also impact the health of the trees and wildlife, and therefor the beauty and health of the parks. Nature has a positive mental and physical health effect on humans, so again, a thriving wild place in the city is important to the health of poor and minority children who need a place to stay fit and experience nature. Please prioritize THEM, and not the people who have given up on life.

Seattle is an enabler of the self-destructive behavior of many of the homeless. Millions of dollars gone and nothing to show for it. The situation gets worse as time passes. City government's "well intended" actions have produced nothing but bad outcomes for both the homeless and the rest of the citizenry. It appears to me that the only players not held to any level of responsibility and account are the homeless. You only get what you ask for....
let's start by making the parks off-limits.

Please enforce the law to protect the Seattle Park resources and preserve them for all citizens to enjoy. Squatters should be removed immediately and not allowed to return as soon as law enforcement leaves. This includes the motor vehicles parked in the parks. Thank you.
