Seattle parks are being damaged by illegal camping, which has brought piles of garbage and untreated human waste. Some have become unsafe due to crimes in and around the encampments. Seattle residents pay plenty in taxes to keep these areas maintained. To permit them to degrade so badly is not just bad for the environment; it's also a serious waste of taxpayer money. Please put a stop to these problems without further delay.

I agree fully with the petition and wish to add that evictions from park camping should be prompt, rather than permitting the camper to remain for a considerable time, causing ecological damage as is the current park practice.

We pay for the parks so that everyone can enjoy them safely, not just an inconsiderate few. The damage being done today will take generations to restore. We need action NOW to prevent any further deterioration.

It is time for environmentalists to clearly speak out and demand sustainable management of our urban parks. I am heartbroken that on Earth Day 2018, it is necessary for the people of Seattle to petition our government to stop the devastation caused by illegal uses.
