Appalling...this is a desperate measure that can only produce disappointment and disillusionment in those business leaders within the core industry drivers that support wealth creation in this country. This wasn't mentioned at all BEFORE the election. If passed it is true that the government deficit will be reduced but it means that small businesses will be threatened or even close....knockon effect to the economy in a wider sense is eventually very negative.

On top of the changes removing Entrepreneurs Relief on goodwill on incorporation and disallowing goodwill write-off for corporation tax purposes, the Treasury have clearly decided (see bit.ly/smallbusinesspain) that 'small business' is the enemy. This whole strategy shows how out of touch they are with what sector really drives the economy.

Another blow for the self-employed.
Interestingly a higher rate employee earning say £90K salary with net dividends of £10K will be better off under this regime.
While thousands of hard working self employed people with pay and dividends within the basic rate band of tax will be signifcantly worse off.
Is this a governement for the self employed???

This is an increase in income tax, and breaks David Cameron's pledge not to increase income tax if he were elected Prime Minister. It didn't take long, did it?
This increase in income tax is aimed specifically at the self-employed, resulting from the familiar, HMRC-inspired view that people are only ever self-employed to dodge tax. Maybe our politicians, and the lifelong civil servants at HMRC, should try being self-employed and see how hard it is? No paid holiday, no sick pay, no cushy pension scheme, no job security, and lots of time and stress chasing customers for money, often because you have a VAT or tax bill due. They would quickly change their view.
