With the ever-worsening impacts to our water supply (growth, drought, waste), we are simply not positioned to support the proposed data centers. While they may provide some short-term benefits (such as initial construction jobs), the negative long-term effects (in my opinion) will far outweigh those minimal benefits. In a sense, you must ask yourself what matters more...increased data capacity to support generative AI that is mostly used for inane activities (such as online posts) or the lives and livelihood of the citizens under your purview.

San Marcos should be against data centers AND any other large developments that will deplete are already crucially finite water resources!

It is important to me as a Texan that we protect our water. Our springs and watering holes have been drying up already with the amount of people moving to the state and with climate changes to rain patterns. We do not need AI, at all. I do not agree with a data center anywhere, let alone in a fragile ecosystem that is already struggling for water. I say a strong NO to a data center.

I am a drainage and water quality engineer in Austin and this is unacceptable! We are already struggling for water! And we don’t need ugly data centers that will be abandoned in 10 years destroying what makes San Marcos so special.
