We need the pool back

I joined Hilltop Y when it opened in 1993 because of the pool. Swimming laps has been essential to my health and well being. The severely reduced schedule prevents me from swimming in the evenings after work and greatly limits the pool's availability on the weekends. Making this schedule without consulting the users disrespects us all and ignores our needs as paying members. The pool schedule as posted is absurd and we demand a return to the previous schedule as it has been since this YMCA opened.

I see the pool closure hours as just another reason not to be a member of the Hilltop Y. Favorite classes of mine have been dropped and it seems that the Y doesn't care about using it's facilities to the maximum benefit of everyone. From empty dance rooms that should be enjoyed (even with a smaller group of member) to limiting access to the pool. What is it? The money spent on renovation? Which if you have been around long enough, just put some things back to how they were 25 years ago--such a waste of money. Is it high salaries of uppity ups? Is it the "hearsay" lawsuit about not giving breaks to employees that I have heard about? Seems someone is asleep at the wheel....

I joined the YMCA to learn to swim. Since then I use the pool several times a week. If I want to throw in an extra pool workout I do not want to have to look at a schedule to see when I can do that. The pool should be open when the Y is open. If you are looking to increase membership, cutting pool hours is NOT the way to do it.

I joined the YMCA to learn to swim. Since then I use the pool several times a week. If I want to throw in an extra workout in the pool I want to be able to do so without having to check the schedule to see when that would be possible. To cut the pool hours would be a detriment to all swimmers. The pool should be open during Y hours. If you are seeking to increase membership cutting pool hours is NOT the way to go.

Unacceptable! The pool should be open when the Y is open.

I have not been using the pool for some time, because of issues with my hip. I will soon be having surgery, and will be needing to use the pool for my rehab. It seems that the pool is no longer open when I can come. This will greatly impact my recovery. If the closures continue, I will have to look for another gym with a swimming pool. I hope that it does not come to that!

Your pool is wonderful and separates you from the half dozen surrounding gyms that DO NOT have a pool. Cutting hours is cutting your biggest advantage with your competitors. I watch restaurants do this on occasion....cutting hours on certain days to save money, and what happens is no one can remember the complicated schedules, and thus never go back to the restaurant. I hope this does not happen to your wonderful pool that I use every week!

I joined the Y because I wanted access to a pool to help me recover my strength after leg surgery. For a few months, I was in the pool nearly every day, usually in the afternoon. Please restore the afternoon and evening pool hours so I can use the pool again. Make it easier for the members to use the YMCA, not harder. In January, the Y changed its daytime schedule, changing the times of some classes I like and suddenly dropping the only weekday Zumba class, which I loved. I was told that the Zumba class was cut to help save money. So if the schedule changes and pool cutbacks are needed to save money, then why is the Y spending so much on renovations?

I rely greatly on the swimming pool for my exercising activities. It is not fair to close the pool during these hours especially as myself and many other members are negatively impacted.

"Y" pool has heavy use all hours of the day.

I come to the why to use the pool only. These cutbacks directly impact the only time I can make it to the facility. Please keep the pool open.

Having had 2 hip replacements in the past 3 years, I find the pool to be very helpful (and the only thing) that relieves my pain. The pool is an integral part of my exercise regime. Please rethink your idea of changing the present pool hours.

The pool is the reason I joined the Richmond Y. The cutbacks mean I often cannot use it. Please restore the hours.

This morning (2/25/20) I sent the signatures of 225 Hilltop YMCA members to the executive leaders of YMCA of the East Bay with our request that they immediately restore full access to the pool. I'm sure we represent the feelings of many more in the Hilltop YMCA community who have not yet heard about the petition. Please spread the word and encourage your fellow members to continue signing the online petition!

I chose the YMCA Hilltop for access to the pool and will have to look elsewhere if the hours continue to be as it is now (reduced).

The cutback in pool hours appears to be part of a broader problem at the Hilltop YMCA. The recent renovations are being carried out without a coherent plan. Every discussion I've had in recent weeks with leading staff members confirms this. There's been no serious effort to solicit membership input on any of these changes, including the slashing of pool hours. Clearly a major leadership default, reaching into the upper levels of the YMCA of the East Bay. A sharp change of direction is needed -- starting with restoring the pool hours!
