This is a ludicrous idea. The existing rail line is in shambles, and it would take billions of $$ to get the tracks viable for shipments of any kind. The railway between Cloverdale and Eureka should be abandoned. All use of Coal & Fossil Fuels needs to be stopped other than for emergency use. This is the time to save the climate and the globe and say no to coal & petroleum. I

The proposed route along Sonoma County’s SMART Train’s tracks would create health hazards among residents/employees living/working nearby.

All for the trail, flew the route when I worked for Fish and Game when the Island Mountain tunnel had collapsed and it was being considered for re-building the line, and there were multiple other failed stretches with landslides and undercut filled reaches that would likely fail as well. It is a failure risk with damage to water quality even without a toxic train falling in with all the dirt. Stop the coal train!

NO amount of money could make the rail route along the Eel river even close to safe. It was abandoned for a reason. Any geologist will tell you you can no longer put a railroad through there.

Stop the idea of transporting polluting coal through our Northern Counties, and continue to build the Great Redwood Trail instead!
