There's only one way for our kids' planet to survive, and that is not the fossil fuel way

While some may think that this is just a railroad investment, it is well known in Humboldt that bids for years have never worked - it is too costly. People need to consider WHAT ELSE they are getting out of this. Beyond pollution, beyond a land-grab, what we've invested in to protect our areas, what comes with a purchase of railroad? When it fails, what goes up in its stead? Time for us to save the planet and not allow this dinosaur of an idea to take off.

This is not a sound idea. These tracks go through geologically unstable terrain and as such would not be safe for transporting coal. In addition, coal needs to stay in the ground. Just say "no" to fossil fuels.

Like we did not kill the LNG terminal, and the railroad is geologically not viable or ever coast effective.

I have mapped km scale earthflows along the Eel River where the rxr crosses them. 1.2 billion is not enough. Coal is dead. In more ways that one. Coffee is for closers. Not for the deadly coal economy.

At this late date in the history of humanity, they can't be serious about this, but they are. Just no!

Last I noticed, CA is a sovereign state (5th largest economy in the world if you recall) and doesn't need dirty coal business. Let the broke and under populated states of Montana, Utah, and Wyoming deal with their own failing industry if they want to. CA has better things to do with its time and resources.

As a resident of Humboldt county I am wholly against the use of crumbling, outdated infrastructure for transporting an archaic and environmentally damaging energy source. This wasteful plan has no place on the north coast, or anywhere. Please keep coal out of Humboldt county and away from our waterways. Let the path of the old rail line be used for something that will actually have long term benefits for our community.
