This would be a total disaster for our communities and environment! Coal needs to stay in the ground!

It's called Climate Change and coal is a big contributor to this world wide disaster. Plus, this rail line is beyond functionality and would force the elimination of the approved Great Redwood Trail. This plan is a giant step in the wrong direction and make little sense, unless one is at the profit end of this outmoded form of energy production.

Wrong project, wrong time. Spend the money that it would take to upgrade the defunct rail line on upgraded grid infrastructure to support alternative energy. Keep coal in the ground and out of our atmosphere.

Stop the coal train? Enough is enough. The planet is already trying to dispose of us but that apparently doesn't stop the money grab. Digusting!

While the effects of climate change become more and more obvious this summer — wildfires, powerful storms — coal production and use continues to increase. China's use of coal to generate electricity rose again in 2020 and continues upward in 2021; China burned 53% of the world's coal consumed in 2020. We do NOT want to facilitate the use of any coal, and we definitely don't want coal trains crossing our forests and rivers to our Pacific shores. NO NO NO.

It took 30 years to build the Smart Train. There is no track across the Blue Goo, the highest maintenance cost RR in the US. And the just want to get it to a country that doesn't care about global warming?
