Moving coal on trains has documented detrimental effects on the health of our citizens along the train route. Increased rates of asthma in young children and lowered life expectancies. In Contra Costa County, the communities living along the train tracks to the port of Richmond, California, are predominantly people of color. So this is a racial justice issue also. These detrimental effects occur even when train cars of coal are “covered.” The coal dust gets into the air. The particulate matter is so small it actually enters into the lung cells. At that point there are no ameliorating treatments. Do not send coal to California.

Why? For what purpose - other than greed - is coal needed on the North Coast?

Please keep these toxins out of the environment! This would affect not only the people that need the water in this area, but the animals and overall environment for future generations to come.

Absolutely ridiculous. Why in the world would we prioritize the burning of coal over zero emission active transportation. As a Californian, I am outraged this is even being considered.
