Please let us cease coal at once and its perpetually destructive environmental and health consequences! We need to invest more in community renewable energy and continue investing in affordable solar panels with incentives or grants, please!

Living on Brisbane Road in Ipswich is horrible with all the coal trains coming past. Especially early in the morning. My cat has bad anxiety and it is so noisy and creates terrible noise and it is toxic

I sat with friends in Bull Head City Arizona in 1992 about three miles above the coal burning plant there. We were eating lunch and were on a bluff overlooking the town, coal burning plant, and the Colorado River. The wind shifted on us and within minutes soot from the plant started covering us. We could see the ashes falling from the sky onto our clothing and food. We had to pack up and leave. They say the coal burning plants are clean burning. Truth is its a chimney that doesn't burn everything and the chemicals within the ash fall back down to the ground as does any chimney. They claimed they had filters in the chimney. If this was true then everything would've been caught in that precious chimney of theirs and not allowed to fall from the sky. The plant was decommissioned and closed a year later for reasons unknown to my friends and myself. The issue is, if the plants were honest and took great care about what they do with their waste water, and the coal ash that never gets caught in the chimneys. Then this petition would never be necessary...especially when they have a track record of not caring about drinking water, or healthy rivers and streams or the publics health and well being at large. My issue is not with the coal miners. My Grandfather was a miner of many items found under the earth's surface as well as a farmer. My issue is with the coal company itself and the reality the companies truly do not care about proactive prevention of pollution or accidents. Instead the coal companies have a long history of paying off media or government officials to look the other way. Bottom line. We have the technology and the filters to actually capture and recycle all ash in those chimneys and none...none have been installed to my knowledge. If they were, Our Coal chimney's would look like the ones found in Oslo Norway. Simple truth.

This makes no sense to send a coal train through a train corridor in Marin and Sonoma counties which is used by the Smart Train. Also, it would adversely impact the environment, not only of these counties, but those north of hear. The Eel River is a precious resource and natural treasure. It’s Health is necessary for both wildlife and the people living in the area. A trail makes sense, while a rail line carrying ton of coal doesn’t due to the potential for landslides along the closed corridor. It would also cost billions of dollars at taxpayers expense, not the already approved budget for the trail. Thanks, Georgia Berry

Coal is bad for health and the environment. We should not let it mess up our rivers just so that someone can profit from it.
