I do not agree with changing starts times. I have one child in middle and one in high school. Neither want this change. Our days are already long and afternoons are crowded, this change would take away the little family time we have and the very little free time my kids have between school, activities, and homework. And all for a what? A negligible benefit for only half our student population. Not worth it!

Our students dont need this. What about the younger kids? All of this for a potential 1-4% grade increase just for older students is wrong.

Changing the school times for one district is not worth the problems it’s going to create for hundreds of families. Families already don’t spend enough time together and now we want to make everything go later into the day? Later school, later sports and extra curricular’s, later dinners and later homework times. There are a lot of activities that support other children from different towns, who’s to say that they’d change they’re schedule because of the schools? And if they don’t what if a granby kid can’t participate because of that. There are just so many more what ifs and cons to this solution than there are benefits.

Both my husband and I work. Either change to the school time is something we are opposed to. We have a daughter who will be attending high school in Granby and then in the afternoon at the Greater Hartford Arts Academy. A shorter morning at Granby will greatly affect her, and I don’t see CREC changing for one district. Our soon to be 8th grader is concerned with being able to participate in after school activities. We also have a soon to be 2nd grader who will be greatly affected by either purposes change.

Do not change the existing start times. If kids need more sleep, then parents need to enforce earlier bedtimes! I am a working Mom, full time, and the proposed new start times would be detrimental. I understand that the Yoga Moms who do not work are all for this, and that is ridiculous! Bottom line, I repeat.... be a parent and discipline your children and adhere to earlier bedtimes!

I am a Hartland resident however; my 7th grader wants to choose Granby when he makes is voucher selection next year for High School due to its academic and technology excellence. It would be a shame for he and other Hartland students (like my 4th grader) to miss out on all the great things Granby High has to offer because of transportation issues this will cause for Hartland and I would imagine for Hartford as well.
In addition, while sleep is very important for ALL, is 40 minutes much of a difference? Don't the cons to families, students (in all grades), extra circular activities, and some local businesses where high school students make up a good portion of the work force outweigh the pro of sleeping in?
Elementary students going to school until almost 4:00? I'm an adult and before 4:00 my mind is done absorbing for the day. Imagine being the teacher who has a class until 4 when the "behave" runs out.
Please reconsider or at least fully research and vet the very real concerns and financial burden being placed on the families who have students attending (or will attend in the future) Granby Public schools.

Opposed to this change. Intended beneficial utcomes will be over ridden by further challenges/ burdens on families. Leave the start times as is.

While I understand the research behind starting school later for adolescents, the Task Force completely overlooked the effects on elementary students and their families. They sent out a survey before they even presented their findings. How were we to make an informed decision? They keep telling us that the YMCA will provide care outside the school day but they can’t provide any specifics. We should have ALL questions answered, definitive research on the effects on elementary students, and specific plans arranged before making such a drastic change.
