As you may have heard, the OLG wants to open up a casino in the GTA, potentially Ontario Place. Rob Ford and Giorgio Mammoliti are for the idea, saying it will help the economy and put more money into the city via new tourists coming. I beg to differ though, I believe that this will not work out and actually be very detrimental to our economy and to our great city. Here are some reasons why, we already have two casinos nearby, Fallsview and Casino Rama, why do we need another one? Another reason is gambling addiction, do we really want our friends or family really going to the casino everyday losing paycheque after paycheque in dreams of "winning big". These are just a few reasons, if you want to know more, its as simple as clicking the links to the right, or even google. The reason I started this is because I know people who have lost homes due to gambling. I, myself used to be an avid gambler when I was younger and night after night I would lose hundreds of dollars it became a problem, I would spend nights at Casino Rama or Fallsview, weeks even, and come home with nothing. I don't want that to happen to the younger generation, who will grow up with a casino right in their neighborhood. I'm not asking you to agree with me, but I'm asking you to just research and decide for yourself.
Sign this petition if you believe in the cause. Keep our city clean.

* I would like to get 5,000 signatures so that I can E-Mail the City Councillors and potentially the Mayor so that they know we are serious about this and want to keep our city clean and safe!

I have been reading through the stories you are leaving in the comments and it is clear that I am not the only one who has seen how this industry destroys lives. I am currently compiling all of these accounts to present to the city councillors so they can see the human cost of their decision.

Seeing this level of support reminds me that I am not alone in fearing what a casino would do to our neighborhoods. Knowing how easily my own life spiraled because of these places makes this momentum feel incredibly personal and vital.

Seriously? We want a nice waterfront for kids and families not a giant slot machine. Leave it alone.

My uncle lost everything to gambling and it destroyed our family. Why would we want to make it easier for people to get hooked right downtown?
