No Bell Change!!!

The safety of children should come first. I cannot imagine any 5 year old having to wait for the bus at 5:30 am. Further, high school kids have had the early bell as long as I can remember and we are just now saying they should sleep in? Really?

I hope that the school board will listen tothe parents...they usually do anything they want and don't take children into consideration. And really isn't that they are suppose to do

Elementary school children should not be waiting for the bus in the dark.

7 am is far too early for elementary students to arrive.

This is a money issue. South Carolina has the OLDEST bus fleet in the U.S. with most buses over 15 years old and in need for constantly repair. They cost more to fuel and operate since they're inefficient and always breaking down. To the credit of the State Superintendent's office, they have, every single year, requested that the legislature make good on they're original 2007 promise to replace the buses statewide with a new fleet. Unfortunately, this has been ignored and passed over year after year until now the problem is at its worst. To allow ALL school aged kids, K-12, to go to arrive at school at a reasonable hour (8-8:30 am) would require double or triple the number of buses as well as extra certified drivers. Currently, there are not enough bus drivers to staff the county's needs. Drivers are lured away by higher wages elsewhere in our growing economy. Therefore, the only solution comes at pain point for most tax payers since replacing the old fleet of buses would require raising massive funds through taxing -- like the penny tax recently implemented. Until this happens, I suggest that shuffling the problem to our most vunerable student population -- elementary kids, is unacceptable and should be dropped. Hopefully, a new tax or perhaps a major savings on the government cost side will occur and we can move toward ensuring that all kids start at a decent time that will enhance academic performance. -- Sincerely, Rick Conard -- Parent at St. Anderew's School of Math and Science

Clearly unsafe, unhealthy, and impractical for elementary age kids.

Moving bell times earlier is a terrible and unhealthy idea

High school students who work at the after school care program will lose their after school jobs under this proposal because they won't be able to be at Kaleidoscope in time!
