Minnesota medical professionals urge MMA to remain opposed to assisted suicide

I am strongly opposed to the MMA taking a neutral or pro position on MD assisted suicide.

We can not legalize assisted suicide in Minnesota nor in any state!

The Minnesota Medical Association (MMA), like the American Medical Association, has long been explicitly opposed to assisted suicide, and for good reason: assisted suicide undermines the patient-caregiver relationship, disincentivizes efforts to expand real care to all people, and is a threat to vulnerable populations, like the disabled, elderly, and poor. PLEASE keep the MMA OPPOSED to any type of assisting with suicide.

Please, please continue to be opposed (not neutral) to physician assisted suicide. Medical personnel help people LIVE, not die!!! Please continue to live up to your Hippocratic Oath. Thank you.

Assisted suicide is so much against what we intend to do when we enter the health care field. Very dangerous territory!

Where is real help when someone who is desperate needs it?

I sure enjoyed the days when we served patients and would never have thought of this new trend. Totally evil now and money-minded. Am glad to be semi-retuired!

The use of Assisted suicide violates the oath to "do no harm" This is a slippery slope, what starts out as people with terminal conditions will end with those who are disabled mentally or physically. I believe it will be used to make our elderly feel as though they have to do this, as some kind of sick civic duty. This devalues the human person. It could also be used against the poor or those that the powerful feel are not useful. We need to value each person, by killing off those that the powerful don't approve of we lesson our own humanity.

As a retired psychologist I continue to be concerned about the suicide decision making process.

As a nurse, I cannot participate in Assisted Suicide but also as a matter of my faith. I believe that all life is sacred and I cannot play God in deciding when someone's life ends. I will not put my nursing license or my faith on the line for assisted suicide and should not be required by law to do so.

Have we lost all sense of decency??? What will we say on Judgement Day???

Stop bad legislation. No assisted suicide. Stop this madness. God forgive us.

This is against the Hippocratic Oath which every physician swears to abide by. I am totally against assisted suicide!

Actively causing a patient's death isn't health care and undermines the critical interpersonal trust needed to provide effective patient care.

The Hippocratic Oath calls for physicians to SAVE lives--not KILL them.
