Minnesota medical professionals urge MMA to remain opposed to assisted suicide

Please do not allow "doctor assisted suicide". People need help to heal their hurts. I almost committed suicide 30 years ago, but because I had friends & family who loved me, helped me & prayed for me I am alive and healthy today. I am 62 years old.

Assisted suicide would be terrible for our vulnerable patients. Loving medical care offered is replaced by physician quickened death. It must be stopped in Minnesota.

I am in support of maintaining an "opposed" stance to physician-assisted suicide.

Minnesota Medical Association, Stop the idea of murdering human being via means of assisted suicide, The medical profession is here to help and heal people, NOT TO KILL THEM. The medical people have taken a Hippocrates's oath to help, not harm human beings. Morality must prevail instead of the barbaric killing of humans through assisted suicide and abortion. We have been murdering babies for over 40 years. Are we so desensitized that we cannot see that this is immoral? Human beings have souls and are not animals to be put down, and not ever by medical personnel who have taken an oath to not harm people in their care..

I believe that assisted suicide is not necessary given the advances in pain management today and end of life care. Also, I am concerned that it could be used on our most vulnerable, the poor, elderly and disabled.

THOU SHALL NOT KILL

Today toured Hitler's WWII concentration "death" camp in Dachau, Germany and saw first hand the reminders of the atrocities performed on mankind and the disrespect for Human Life. We don't need legalizing assisted suicide!

This is something I could never support. I value every human life, regardless of the state he or she is in.

I have worked in the medical field for over 23 years in various capacities. I have examined/followed the issue of physician assisted suicide for at least 15 years. I oppose it because I have concluded it would be detrimental in a number of ways. Therefore, I recommend that the MMA not to let the camel's nose under the tent.

This is a matter of long term trust and integrity

As physicians, we are bound to heal and to protect human life and always "do no harm". The medical profession should never be involved with a patient's decision to end his own life. This is a conflict of interest. There would be nothing more diabolically evil than a patient having his own physician be involved with both healing and assisting in death.

Good options to treat without introducing the concept a physician intentionally ending life. We need to avoid perception of our motives extending past comfort cares when death approaches.

as a pharmacist, I believe that "neutrality" will mean that MD's will have to offer suicide as a medical option; the mere suggestion of that may lead some to utilize suicide instead of giving themselves or those who care about them the chance to still find purpose in living another day.

I am currently retired

God is the ONLY means to which a human life should end. No one should be given the ability to assist someone's desire to die.

I implore the MMA to continue to oppose assisted suicide.
