Not everyone works in the mines! Completely unnecessary rise especially since they are already high!

Excessive increase! Rate payers get nothing for it. It's nothing but extortion. People can't afford to pay the rates now let alone after this kind of increase

This is pathetic. We already have exorbitant rates compared to other towns in the Hunter and we don't get anything for them either

That is a huge rise. Not happy after millions just been spent on John St. An area that needed attention badly was missed. This is front of Iga and Cotton on. Not at all impressed.

Are you lot kidding. With the situation with mining industry and lack of job security this is a disaster for singleton people barely paying their mortgage and bills as it is. I'm moving. Take my business and my kids sell my house and go.

Are you serious not everyone who lives here is on a miners wage. Have a look who voted you in cause they will be the ones voting you out. Stop

Rubbish spending money on doing things that don't need to be done then lugging the community with a rate increase.

Why should we pay even more when we are lucky to get road works done, or even see the street sweeper once every 3 months. Stop wasting money on crap that is not needed and tighten your belts instead of ripping us off.

the people of Singleton can not afford this, times are hard enough without this added to our weekly bills, tighten your belt Singleton Council because the rate payers have done too many times already.

How can they justify this increase. People are living on the poverty line as it is a present and not been able to pay their rates. I have seen people go without food to pay rates as they don't want to lose their homes. Enough of this crap. Not everyone in Singleton Work in coal mines and most that do work in them don't live in the town. Maybe council should use some of the money they get from the coal mines and leave the rate payer's alone.

9.75 % x 4 years =39% rate rise at the end of the 4 years. There is not enough done here to account for the need for such a massive rise. If staying financially viable to avoid being merged with other councils is the goal (as one counsellor said on the Singleton Surrounds Noticeboard), then the council should do better with their budgeting and put some effort into attracting people and businesses to the town.
